I’m in desperate need of help (medical advice– possible infection)

Hello all! Thank you for replying back, or at least reading! :)
I’ve been having several problems over the last three weeks. The first thing that ocurred that while doing a 6 mile walk, I developed a blister on my right foot on the big toe– it was right next to the nail (towards the other toes) and was likely caused by the friction of my next-door neighbor toe rubbing against the big toe. I put ointment on it, the whole works, and after a week it wasn’t going away in the slightest bit so I ignored it. Then, towards the end of the nail (facing outwards) I developed a corn padding (the dead skin that accumulates to prevent tenderness and injury) and I didn’t know what it was at first. The skin came off when I started picking at it (I’m a true idiot) and I made the mistake of putting a blister band-aid onto the area.
I was at a meeting and we played sand volleyball with our shoes off– I am fairly sure I got sand into the wound but I cleaned it out that night and thought all would be okay. On went a new blister band-aid.
Fast forward a 3 days and that took me to the Saturday which just ocurred– I peeled back the bandaid and saw puss galore and I witnessed a truly heinous smell. I cleaned it out, got some isopropyl alcohol and have put it on ever since. Other than that, I’ve put on hydrogen peroxide and antiobiotic cream to see if there is ap ossible infection and to see if it will get better.
It’s been a few days and the redness has gone down a little, but the area still looks the same. Where I had the corn, there is a blister (more like a bubble) that is just sitting there right next to my toenail. There is a larger blister around that blister and the area by the nail has healed up but it is still a little red as though it is open. The worst part is I’m getting worried because there is (and has been since after I looked at the band-aid after sand volleyball) a degree of whiteness underneath of my toenail.

I seriously cannot lose my toe and I’m worried sick. I don’t know if I have a flu or a fever or not because I keep worrying so much that I simply don’t know.

Can someone help fill me in on this? I just moved a few states away in June and I’m going to assume my healthcare would still be good here (maybe?)

Get it checked by a doctor. Other than that; don’t pick it, don’t mess with it, and don’t let it get dirty. Good luck.

Probably not a big deal. Seems like you’re keeping in clean. Give it time each day without a band-aid on to let it dry out. Also changing the dressing each day (this will help prevent/reduce infection).

I agree with Anon above… get it checked out by a doctor. Keep the wound clean with soap and warm water to prevent it from getting worse. The best soap I know of is Hibiclens (a surgeon’s wash.) Several doctors I know have said it is amazing stuff as far as preventing bacteria from staying or getting into a wound. You can find it at your local pharmacy or drugstore…

Go to the emergency room if you need to. They won’t turn you away for not being able to pay; and it would be better for them to tell you it’s nothing than for you to develop a runaway infection that might lead to serious damages.
