I have no credit and cannot obtain a loan. I have applied everywhere(which is probably temporarily damaging my score) but I have been declined for “insufficient credit” I need to know if there might be a private lender out there who can help (or maybe 3000 people who can each donate $1) Here’s my story, it’s a long one. In January this year, my car broke down. The first mechanic I took it to tore it down and found that someone who had previously worked on it had dropped a small tool or something into the engine housing. It got thrown around in there as the engine was pumping, and destroyed the engine. That mechanic wouldn’t take payments, and the repair was too costly to pay in full. So a friend told me about this place where she bought a car that would do repairs and let me make payments. Of course I took that offer right away. When I picked up the car, I asked what the mileage was on the engine that they installed. I was repeatedly told that it was “low mileage”. I had paid the mechanic the full $1,500.00 before the end of March. I got my income tax returns and spent it all on new brakes, windshield, tires, and a new carseat for my son (now 1 year old) because he had outgrown his infant carseat. Now, this engine has gone out with no warning. I put gas in the car and when I returned to start it, it made a horrible noise and then nothing. I walked home in the rain with my son and immediately called the mechanic who basically told me I was S.O.L. and they wouldn’t do anything to fix/replace the engine without me paying full price for it. I then asked again what the mileage was on the engine he installed. He told me it was around 100k miles “maybe a little more”. I don’t want to pay an arm and a leg to get financing through one of those buy here pay here places just to get a car that’s older than mine, with more mileage, no warranty, that will leave me stranded again by the end of the year. Especially after putting $3,500.00 cash (not building credit) into the car just this year. It would cost me $2,925.00 to get a rebuilt engine with a 5 year, 60k mile warranty on my 1999 Ford Escort SE Sport. If there is anybody that can help me, either with a loan, donations, or repair work, it would be greatly appreciated.

There definitely are loan companies out there that are willing to make loans to people with bad or no credit history. The interest rates aren’t great so you should be careful about going that route, but here are some companies you can try — if you haven’t discovered them already.

I’m also including these sites mostly because if you explore a bit, you’ll find lots of useful articles about credit and debt.

If you’re looking for reliable transportation, maybe you should look at leasing a new car at some future time? There are some downsides to leasing, but if you want a reliable car for less money than an outright purchase, leasing might work for you. Here’s some info on the pros and cons of leasing.

I wish you the best of luck. Being without transportation is definitely tough.
