hair dying.

i had previously asked another question on dying my hair blonde but i have now decided to do it myself as cant really afford to have it done at hairdressers and i would like to do it today. i have looked at schwarkopf live colour, and was wondering would i need two packs as i have long hair and is also thick? the colour would be platinum blonde, my hair is also medium brown, would it still work?

what I found says if its longer than shoulder length you will need two packets. and to leave the dye in longer for richer color> Im assuming that means to help offset the darkness of ones original colour.
