depression help: I feel dead inside. - Help.com

I feel dead inside.

There are times that I feel happiness, and I do realize that life is not happiness everyday. But in the down times I feel nowhere, completely shut down. I have dropped out of college and given up on dreams many times. I have been un-employed for almost 3 years and do not feel like I have anything to contribute, nor would want to. I find myself saying many times that I hate life and can not wait to leave it all behind. I can not live, WTF.

Its possible you have a chemical imbalance. While you might not want to hear this, a psychiatrist can prescribe lithium which will improve your mood no end. This has nothing to do with your sanity - you can be completely sane while simultaneously being clinically depressed. I knew a girl once who was bipolar and lithium helped her no end. Give it a shot.

No offence is intended here, but sometimes i can get a bit rough with my writing.

You need to get off your *** and do something about it! I understand you feel dead but you need to wake yourself up and start living! Look for a job, and if you don’t find one keep looking. You will find something but you need to put yourself out there! You need to find a reason to live, you can’t just keep ‘going through’ life, you need to grab it by the neck and make it into what you want! You can live!

I think you should get a hobby or something that will keep you focused and busy.
You say you’ve given up on your dreams many times, maybe try to get into it one last time.
Tell yourself that this is your last chance, you give up and you deal with the consequenses.
Really try to stick to it, I know it will be hard but it will give you something to think about so you don’t concentrate as much on other things.

Perhaps you’re overreaching. It is demoralizing to set a lofty goal and try to reach it. Takes too long. We live in a short attention span world. We don’t have time to wait for years for dreams to come true. And we get burned out as a result of failed expectations. My suggestion is for you to sit down and think about what you’d like to do and just do it. Don’t do it because you’re going to be rich or famous or comfortable. Do it because it is what you feel like doing. But do something every day. Don’t lounge on the couch. Enjoy the process of being active. Forget results. Forget expectations. If you do that and stop thinking about your happiness, sometimes you look up and realize you are happy. Also, think about others. The adage that ‘it is better to give than receive’ is often true. When we help others we think about them. And when we think about something or someone besides ourselves, we can often begin to relax and enjoy our own lives.

I have felt like you have felt. Things are changing slowly. My sense of existence is coming back slowly and so is my detailed experiance of life. My diet helped me alot and so did exercises. Have you ever ran 5 miles through the dark on a forest in the rain with your music up for volume?

Depression is a strange thing as it forces you to decide what life is. You HAVE to start using your full capacity to explore what life means and can offer. DO NOT fool me you have felt good things in your life before. After you beat dpression (beliefe this and it will happen) and the expeirance of it becomes your allie there will be many more times for these and deeper expeirances.

Your body is a machine LEARN ABOUT IT!
so many people are ignorant about how the body works and your mind.
Feed it with good stuff! wholesome foods, wholesome storys, wholsome surroundings!
Dont read about losers and downers read about people have beat diseases, people who had stuggled all their lifes to fufil dreams.

Modern society works the best if people are slightly unhappy, slightly scared, slightyl ingnorant and slightly anxious. CUT OUT TV! it will reinforce these feelings. YOU WILL NOT FIND THE ANSWERS under your nose you will have to work to find them. When you learn that life is not meant to all be ‘funn’ and ‘happy’ you will make loads of progress.

Good luck buddy, You can get through it all!
I know you can becuase that small bit of hope and posativity inside you made you post this comment.

Sounds like Major Depressive Disorder. I suggest you see a physician about it. It’s not normal to feel like this for so long.
