Technology help please!

I have a WD MyBook 1TB (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=353)
and I’ve been using that with Windows Vista, all is well, but I just got a MacBook Pro and I’m unsure about wether or not it’ll be ok to use. It says that its compatible, but will it reformat and delete everything thats on it at the moment? coz there’s a heap of family photos that would take a years to back up on the net or cds.
The point is, I’m not willing to risk losing all the data, so I just wanted to know if it will delete the data or not.
Thanks
