MY RUNAWAY CAT HAS RETURNED BUT IS BEHAVING STRANGELY!

A couple of days ago, my cat Simon disappeared from my house as a result of my brother leaving the door open at night. Simon is a domestic short hair and is about 1 and a half years old. When we found him, after about a day and a half, he was FILTHY from the rain and was seen with another cat. Simon hasn’t been neutered and I suspect that he has been “enjoying” himself with the strays around my house!

I examined him and found scratch marks on his head, and small hard bumps on his skin, deep within his fur. I gave him a medicated shampoo bath, but these little bumps are freaking me out. Are they Ticks? They are too small to distinguish, but i found about 4 so far, two on his back and two near his shoulder. Its difficult to tell but they seem to be light brown and a reddish color. I’m worried to death that this might be causing his unorthodox behavior!

Simon is normally active and lively, but now he is very lethargic, moving at a snails pace across the house. I tried feeding him his dry treats, and some tap water, but he just seems to not be bothered. I also noticed that when he sleeps, rather then folding his legs under his body, he remains in a low seated position. His paws are against the floor much like how a human would crouch with his hands in front of him. This is strange because Simon usually sleeps very comfortably. I felt through all his arms and legs and couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary. I am going to take him to the vet as soon as possible, but have any of you experienced this before? What should i do? Is there a way to safely remove ticks if indeed that is what they are?

I hope someone replies soon because I read that some ticks are fatal if not treated within a week :S

I don’t know about the ticks but he might have got in a fight and might be feeling kind of defensive, so sleeps in a defensive position.

yeah i was thinking about that too…he seems like a different cat already, but still very lethargic. Sigh…i wish this never happened, he was so sweet and innocent, now it seems like he is scared and defensive. Thanks Pickle Chip! :P

if it was ticks you would see their butts sticking half way out from where they are feeding.

it sounds like he got into a fight with another cat and may be sore. I would take him to the vet to make sure nothing gets infected

i think that with ticks you merly put a hot match to them and they should drop off but i aint sure so i wouldnt try it, let the vet sort it, and perhaps the cuts to his head is where he got in a bit of a fight? so maybe he has battle wounds and there for cant sleep like he would normally but id tak him to the vet to get him fully checked out for all sorts of things - some one may have abused him? only the vet could say

Now that you guys mention it, these bumps are pretty flat on his skin. It may be areas where the other cat tried to claw in on his haunches during the fight. That may explain why there are still flushed red, and a little scabby. I have to look again and confirm it. I believe he has been traumatized somehow, hes just not the same. Must have been rough out there!

Thanks Dub~ and Samsung~ for your input!
