What On Earth?
Yes, she was certain; she listened intently for some time now. There was no doubt, there were intruders about. As she slipped out of bed, quietly she made her way to the front, her brain registering the options she had, the familiar routes to take, the places to go and look without being seen, and more importantly, her paths to escape, if need be. There, again! Unmistakable, there were many, she could tell by the footfalls. She must assess the situation quickly.
She treads lightly, checking in the back, it’s a windy night and she has to strain to filter out the leaves rustling in the trees. Her body tense, every muscle and sense working at maximum. Again; there it was, yes, there were several. Making her way to the front again, she carefully peeks up and can see two shadows, off to the right, and much bigger than she.
From the many vantage points she has here, she’d kept an eye on them. THEY didn’t know. She knew who was a regular visitor, and who was just passing through. Some were invited to stop and talk casually, some brought along friends. She made a mental note and kept it close when anyone new came along. She’d made sure they’d seen her. She’d let her presence be known and that she was very involved around here, and no pushover. She’d earned respect, showed confidence and courage when it mattered. Most of all she’d shown smarts. You didn’t live long up here by being stupid. She’d seen many suffer great harm and even death by being stupid or too comfortable.
She could feel the many emotions running through her body, she was not aware that she was trembling. Her small body shook with the pricks of danger, anxiety, and yes, even excitement, but the rest gave way to outrage. It was common knowledge that the rules change at night, anyone knew that. To be coming here at this hour was insulting, and she took it personally.
With each passing minute she grew tense and now, had worked herself into a mad. Prowling around at this hour meant only one thing, they were up to no good. Did they think she was asleep? She had to be careful not to give herself away. She’d learned the element of surprise was much better. Did they think they could fool her? Why now, at this hour? Why so sneaky and under cover of night? She had to do something, she had to act fast. Yes, this was bad, she was sure of it. There were too many and they had all sides covered. Her heartbeat quickened as she hurried down the hall….
She would have to ask for help. A soft growl emits from her chest. Chili knew it was time to get Greeneyes.
Did I fool you? Did you know this was my dog thinking and doing her job? Do you guys want to hear what happened next? I’ll post part 2 in a bit. Honestly, more exciting Adventures of 2 Greeneyes.
