RENTING FROM FAMILY.
Need imput from people that have had a similar experience.
Living with family for a short period. found that the member my wife and I have been living with has been “snooping” though our most personal things. which we know is or has happened. we aggreed to rent a suit off this person but have found that it is going to cost just as much to rent a place of better value in a better area. Since this person did help us out while we were going through a hard time we (I) do not wish to hurt anyone. nothing is in paper or their are no legally binding factors except a verbal aggreement which can be an issue that can be overcome. would it be wrong to just leave a note and move out? or do I owe them and expanation? please note we pay 230$ a month for their bell bill, andhave for the last 6 months ( as soon as we moved in) also I put in around 300hours of work on their home and totally reno’d their master bathroom.(free of charge) we buy alotof the nessities like food etc. and if you do the math ( at 10$ per hour which is more then a fair wage as I used to make 18 but was laid off) it works out to to around 730$ a month rent for a room. things have gotten really bad that my wife and I do not want to come home. we knew this would be short term and did fully expect to start renting their other suit. ( apartment ) their old tenant moved out and we paid our full months rent as was asked no problems. but now they old tenant’s lease is not up until the end of the month.this was not the original plan. we are moving into a hotel for the remainder of the month and getting a place all said and done. I do not think asking for rent back is going to happen so I will not even bother doing that. but I am going to be telling them that I will no be renting their place. needless to say this is going to cause a problem. well if anyone has any suggestions I am all ears.
