mother help: My mother found my diary while cleaning my room today. - Help.com

My mother found my diary while cleaning my room today.

She left it on my bed - but I don’t know if she read it. Its just a giant hardback copy with my name on the front. There is a LOT of things in their that I would never tell her - how I actualy feel, about school, pressures (including money issues that she keeps pushing on me) and also I wrote about her not being able to understand any of it at one point and why. There is also a lot about death (as I have been to so many funerals this year) Some of it was offencive because I was angry at the time.
Having said that, its been a few months since I wrote in it - but still I would hate to think she read it. She isn’t treating me differently…does that mean she didn’t read it or is she pretending not to have read it??

This is the SECOND time she did it, when I was 8 she read one that I had and gave out to me for what I put in it and made me apologize - so them I stopped for 8 years - (I’m 16)

What should I do??

well, ask her i guess.
but lordy, if shes cleaning your room at 16, then fair game to her to read whatever she wants.
maybe keep your room clean on your own.

I do clean my own room - I’ve told her not to for the past few years - in fact she hasn’t done it in years…I think she was looking for something.

Buy a small safe/lock box. You can keep other personal stuff in there too. As for the here and now, just assume she read it and go from there.

I don’t think that is the way to go. A diary is not just a way to improve writing. It is a great life tool. A good way to sort out your thoughts and feelings. You just need to guard them. Keep it safe. :)

I recommend keeping a diary. Its very good for expressing yourself when ur in troubled times. So u can write in it still, just when you need to and put it in a place that no one would look in. :)

Hi at 16 your entitled to privacy and I think you should ask your Mother if she read your diary or not. If she did ask her upright not to do it again. Open the communication channels with her and assure her that she can trust you. Keep up your diary !

Kind Regards.

God Bless!!!

hi, you replied on my issue about school- 8th graders are 12-14 year olds and i dont know anyone very well, could you maybe help me more?
i think that if your 16 you should have privacy. yeah confront her about it and if she did read it tell her that that was wrong.
the same thing happened to me and mine said a lot of private things, i told her not to do it again and that that’s my privacy and no one else should see it. it hasnt happened again since. good luck.
