exactly a week ago..
my ex boyfriend’s youngest brother, age 16.. sophomore in high school, was shot behind the head and died on scene. at first it wasn’t something that impacted me hard enough to even cry when i heard. until 3 days after, it hit me that someone who could always make me laugh and always wanted everyone to be happy would never be doing that again. and i was brought to tears.
the shooting was gang related, although he was not in a gang. the friend he was walking with was in the gang. after getting into an argument, the guy in the car started to shoot blindly hitting Jaime in the head.
the shooter was 22 years old.. and thankfully caught one town over and is convicted for 2 murders..
the funeral was one of the ugliest experiences i’ve ever seen.. but it puts things into perspective. how much we take for granted in this world… one being the precious gift of life.. he was an example of “here today, gone tomorrow”. you don’t think that sort of thing will happen to anyone you know or close to you, but in the blink of an eye, it can all be gone. maybe not by a gang shooting, but it can happen. i didn’t think so, yet here it is.. i’ll never get to hug or talk to him again..
