How can you break up with someone.

One of my best friends is dating a girl who is super clingy and has some depression problems. He cares about her but it’s not working out and he feels trapped in the relationship. How can he break up with her with out her hurting herself.

He should tell her that,
“He cares about her but it’s not working out and he feels trapped in the relationship.” hopefully she will understand and will accept it. Let her down easy and if she cries or has a tough time with it, stay by her side and help her through it but make it clear u dont want to date her anymore. Be gentle and kind but get ur point across so there is no confusion

the problem is if he breaks up with her. she’ll cut her wrist or even possibly suicide.

leave her to it then, you cant change that and it would be her choice not his, but i mean if he worrries bout her oding that to much then hell never escape - in fact why did he even go tht far if shes like that?

well breakups do hurt. thats the nature of breakups, thats why they call them breakups and not wonderful moments.
but her depression, and her reaction, is not his fault, nor is it his responsibility.
he should explain to her that he does care, but her problems are making the relationship not work, and he feels they should not be together untill she has sorted her issues out. that might encourage her to sort herself out instead of sink into some kind of depression
if he is really worried she will hurt herself, then he needs to let someone know that she is a danger to herself, like her parents or a teacher or other adult.
but like i said, her reaction is not his responsibility, SHE makes that choice for herself.
