I am a new mom of a 2 1/2 month old.

I have been struggling really badly this past week with postpartum depression on top of my regular depression. For the past 2 days I’ve been letting my mother take care of my child mostly. I needed to catch up on sleep to help feel better. I’ve helped when I could. I told my friend this and she said I should give up my child because I can’t take care of him right now. I don’t want to be a bad mom. I would never want to hurt him but thought I had to do some healing. I feel horrible about what she said. Could she be right?

No she is not right, if you feel you are suffering from PPD you really need to seek a doctor especially if your already suffering depression. I’ve heard many horror stories about mother’s who had PPD, get some help, but don’t give the child up

watttttttt your friend is an idiot.
Danis right, you just need to get some help. PPD is really really common, and doctors and therapists really understand it now far more than they used to.
youre obviously a great mum, or you wouldnt be worrying about hurting your baby.
this is nothing to do with your value as a mother or person, its just something that happens to some people.

Thank’s you wonderful sweethearts. I just needed to hear some words of encouragement and you all have helped so much. I will talk to my doc and therapist tomorrow. My friend isn’t my friend anymore. What a stupid thing to say. I appreciate all of you!
