hi

I have been suffering from a condition called basilar migraine, this means i frequently get one or more (usually more) of these symptoms

. dysarthria (impairments or clumsiness in the speaking of words due to diseases that affect the oral, lingual, or pharyngeal muscles)
. vertigo (sense of spinning)
. tinnitus
. hypacusia (impaired hearing)
. diplopia (double vision)
. temporary blindness
. visual symptoms simultaneously in both temporal and nasal fields of both eyes
. ataxia (incoordination and unsteadiness)
. decreased level of consciousness
. simultaneously bilateral paresthesias (abnormal or unpleasant sensation often described as numbness or as a prickly, stinging, or burning feeling)
. some stroke like symptoms

i am wondering if anyone else suffors from this condition and if so what methods they have found are most sucessful at repressing the symptoms?

what i do is i make a hot bath…no bubbles (the scent makes me want to throw up) lay down and relax in it with your whole body, head and all but not your face, put a hot wash cloth over your eyes (a dark colored clothso light won’t bug your eyes). and just relax for a while…no noise, no interruptions. but don’t fall asleep so you don’t drown. then when your done in there, darken your room and take a nap. the heat from your bath will relax you enough so it will make it pretty easy to fall asleep. usually by the time you wake up the symptoms will be gone except the pain of the headache, but it won’t be as intense.
i also drink a lot of water as soon as i know i’ll be getting the symptoms…because during all of it i can’t usually get anything down.

i know i haven’t been diagnosed with basilar migraines but from what you said we have the same symptoms.

er! soi wrote this big thing of what i do and i don’t think it sent…its not showing. so i’ll write it again.

before the symptoms start i usually can tell its gonna be a bad one so i drink tons of water because i can’t get anything down during the migraine.
then i run a hot bath, no bubbles, or anything with a scent..usually makes me ill…then you get in and just relax, put your head under but not your face and put a dark colored hot washcloth over your eyes. make sure you don’t fall asleep so you don’t drown.
when your done with the bath darken your room and take a nap…the heat of the bath should make it easier to sleep.
that stuff usually gets me through the worst part of the migraine, but doesn’t get rid of it. also avoid the tv.
