Is it the “jewelry of the stars?” Is it true that the company has been around for 500 years? Is it true that for each design, there are only 25 copies, so that your piece is unique?

I tried to look online and could not find anything other than sites that SELL Le Vian…I would like to know more about it.

Do most or all of the designs involve diamonds?

Not necessarily. Le Vian uses a ‘different’ sort of design with most of their products. They will mix colors that don’t always mix well. For instance, they will use copper prongs (orange-ish) to hold in a tanzanite stone. Then, there might be chocolate diamond baguettes on the sides of the tanzanite stone…and a gold band…turning into a colorful, sometimes garish ring/necklace/whatever.

The LeVian family has been known for having made jewelry dating back to 1500. In 1746, the family’s guardianship of the royal jewels of Persia had an immense effect on the future generations. The family sees itself as the guardian of the jewels and sees its role as the savior of gems that are only found in one mine and about to become extinct. As such, it imported millions of carats of Persian turquoise to the US in the 70’s before the mine became extinct, earning the accolade of the “King of Turquoise”. In the 1980’s when Tiffany’s lost its exclusivity agreement with the government of Tanzania for Tanzanite, Le Vian imported what is believed to be half of the world’s production of Tanzanite from the world’s only mine. In the 1990’s the LeVian’s did the same with the multi-colored sapphires coming from Madagascar…And in the 21st century, Le Vian has become known as the purveyor of natural fancy color diamonds, which are much rarer than the colorless variety. To bring the natural fancy color diamonds to everyone, Le Vian popularized them with its branding of Chocolate Diamonds(R) which is its registered trademark in the US and 27 Western countries in Europe.
Le Vian dresses about 100 celebrities a year and creates 25000 new designs a year, most of which never go into production. The original artist proofs are then sold in Le Vian’s fabled one day trunk show events that are held around the country.
