I’m going to be a freshman in high school, and I was

going to take: Honors Chemistry, Honors CP English, Algebra 2, Latin, Art, and Health(we have to take it, of course…), but now I don’t want to take art, I want to take Spanish 2, ’cause I spent a year in middle school on spanish. But my mom is saying that I’m going to over work myself. I’ve allways had no truble with school and my grade point average last year was 4.3, but I wasn’t really trying then. But now that I’m going into High School, and Colleges look at every single grade in every single class I want to work really hard. But, do you guys think it’s to much work on top of the sports and clubs I’m in?

well - it seems to me you could probably do it but you might wanna trust your moms instincts on this one. My daughter took all the hard classes in high school and really went all out. It was so stressful at times . Alot of her friends took the regular classes and enjoyed high school and are making out fine 4 years post highschool. In the end she still had to take or redo alot of the classes her 1st year of college. They either didnt accept the credit or she scored low on that portion of the entry exam or SAT. They changed the SATs the year she was tking them so that was realy hard. She took them 4 times 2 the old way and 2 the new way. Maybe you should wait on the spanish II and feel out your freshman year. you can always opt to take it another term/semester. All the best!

Since colleges only see your HS transcript and your mom wants you to have and easy class, boost your gpa by taking Spanish I instead of art or the next level language class. Choir will qualify you for the Honors Degree along with your diploma if you are not participating in any school sports. Talk to your guidance counselor about this option.

do you have friends? Not to be a devils advocate or anything, but what are you trying to accomplish by working yourself so hard? What career do you want, are you doing it for you or your parents? I mean it’s good learning and academics are very important, but your a freshman in high school you should be having fun. Playing sports, chasing girls, etc…

sorry…

well either way it seems like there are other things you should be learning or doing. Obviously going above and beyond expectations is cool, but I tried a lot when I was in middleschool and highschool. That all ended about my junior year when I realized I should just enjoyed high school.
