If there was definately a God, and no devil.
Would it make sense that he would be a little bit sadistic?

Ah the old deamon hypothesis…. I’m sure God would be a bit twisted, sadist but not masochistic as nothing should have the power to act over and upon him. But I suppose the point it that there is no god, and whether there is one or not, it is not god that creates evil but natural circumstances.
I.E. it is existence that is violent and not man. The natural man in the natural environment has a set of natural goods and evils associated with his needs and possibilities. Some are set; exessive bleeding is a natural evil, slight bleeding is a gift. and on.
Best references for this kind of material would be:
On Natural inclinations and morality: Sade’s ‘Dialogue between a Priest and a Dying Man’
On Nature and Man: Mary Midgely’s ‘Beast & Man’
The Dark Side: C. G. Jung ‘The Undiscovered Self’
Good luck exploring your own natural and un-natural preferences and mores
(i’m answering under my religion’s definition of who God is)
God grants us free will. therefore we can choose and as such, we are vulnerable to human desires. the result of this is suffering due to conflicting desires.
So for me He isn’t sadistic. He’s just letting us be (well, most of the time anyway). and thus we experience suffering. :)
Why would you believe in God and not Satan? They both exist as real forces in the world. God is good; Satan is evil. Free will makes sense to me, but not quite in the way, vivzofwale suggests. We have the freedom of choice to make decisions that cause us trouble, but there is a broader level of difficulty that our choices do not create. You don’t choose anything that leads to Pancreatic cancer. At least, if you do, you aren’t aware of it as a choice.
Suffering in this world is another matter. I don’t believe God or Satan actively create suffering. Sure they would have us make good or bad choices, respectively, but suffering is not their main concern. God would have us grow stronger and more spiritual as a result of tribulations in our lives. Satan would have us grow more bitter and farther from God and good things as a result of our problems.
I know people who are good and not sadistic. If people can be that way, why can’t God be free of sadistic tendencies? In my opinion, it does not follow that God would be sadistic due to the absence or presence of another being.
Logical problem of evil
One example among many of a formulation of the problem of evil is often attributed to Epicurus [9] and may be schematized as follows:
1. If a perfectly good god exists, then there is no evil in the world.
2. There is evil in the world.
3. Therefore, a perfectly good god does not exist.
This argument is of the logically valid form modus tollens (denying the consequent). In this case, P is “God exists” and Q is “there is no evil in the world”.
Another version:
1. God exists
2. God is omnipotent, omniscient, and perfectly good
3. A perfectly good being would want to prevent all evils.
4. An omniscient being knows every way in which evils can come into existence.
5. An omnipotent being who knows every way in which an evil can come into existence has the power to prevent that evil from coming into existence.
6. A being who knows every way in which an evil can come into existence, who is able to prevent that evil from coming into existence, and who wants to do so, would prevent the existence of that evil.
7. If there exists an omnipotent, omniscient, and perfectly good being, then no evil exists.
8. Evil exists (logical contradiction).[2]
just to make life interesting :P
there is a God there is a devil, there are such things as angels and demons, how do i know? well considering I’ve seen a demon and had it talk to me, ya I’ve been pretty convinced after that, and trust me its not cool, its by far the scariest thing I’ve encountered in my life. God is loving, the devil hates us. God will save those all who call onto his name.
There was a time when god existed before the devil. as god created all things he aslo created the spirit creature who ‘became’ satan the devil. as a perfect being he chose to disobey god and rebel.
But what was god like during the time there was no devil - just as he is now.
Knowledge of the plan of salvation helps me to understand that God lives and that Satan is very real. God loves each and every one of his creations that he made a way for us to return to His presence again. Read more about it by clicking on the link below.
A 105……..’God will save all those who call onto his name’
