DOG help: Hey guys! - Help.com

Hey guys!

I just bought a 2 year old dog, and I was wondering for some tips to stop barking. I obviously don’t want her to stop barking altogether but i was wanting to help her bark A LOT less when it comes to squirls, people etc. SO, any tips on how to train your dog to bark less, thanks so much!

You have to discipline the dog when it barks inappropriately and praise it when it barks appropriately. Eventually, it will learn the difference. A good way to discipline a dog is by using a scruff shake that simulates what a mother dog does to a misbehaving puppy: grab the dog by the scruff around its neck, shake it hard but not violently, and firmly say “no” and “bad dog.” This technique is from a wonderful dog training book called “Mother Knows Best: The Natural Way to Train Your Dog” by Carol Lea Benjamin.

Dog Whisperer has my vote for sure! You can watch it on hulu, too, if you don’t have NGC.
