So I graduated from college in December, still haven’t gotten a job (thanks economy), thought I deferred all my loans til I get a real job.

Got a phone call today that I was supposed to start repaying one in January and now I owe $900! Holy cow! Why didn’t they call me til today? Apparently they were calling my job that I quit 4 years ago, but they had my cell number and never called it. Uggghhh!!! What should I do? I have no way of getting the $$ and I’m trying to defer any suggestions in the mean time?

yeah, actually, contact them and while it has not been placed into deferment, you should be able to get a forbearance on the amount that is passed due, due, whatever. They should allow it especially if it was a federal loan

Depending on what you went to college for, try looking for a job beyond your city or state. You may be able to get a decent job somewhere else.

If you are unemployed but actively looking for work, you can get an unemployment deferment. This means your payments are suspended and no interest accumulates. I have one right now on my student loans. If you can’t get an unemployment deferment, then get a forbearance. Interest will accumulate with a forbearance, but you don’t have to pay it now if you don’t want to or can’t. The rules for either are liberal, so you shouldn’t have any trouble getting one or the other.
