Helter Skelter - Coming Down Fast :/

Yesterday I had a really great day, and today I had a double whammy of news to knock me off that higher place. :|

Luckily the bad news is not about me personally or even about anyone close (though it’s not like I’m floating in cream on that front either) - I just heard 2 things that knocked me off my feet like a 1-2 punch:

1. I read an article in the newspaper that said something like the economy is perhaps most strongly influenced by the opinions that the media spreads.

2. I heard a radio interview where they gave rather precise details how big media stories are created in “behind closed doors” deals.

Neither of the facts actually surprised me. What surprises me is that they were both publicly stated outright - one of them by a professor at Yale writing in the New York Times (and the other, more controversial interview was on the radio in German — if you want, contact me and I can hook you up to an mp3 download link).

What kills me is that this is kind of like walking down the street and reading a sign that says something like “nood under age girls tied up in the back room - End of Summer Sale - now only $2 per hour!” and people walk by and think it’s perfectly OK.

I mean if every story from the front page to the last page is placed there by some kind of establishment apparatus, and this establishment apparatus is showing us these stories to influence our emotions, such that we’re willing to work hard for little or no pay, buy BS products + services for over-priced prices / rates, etc. … — well, don’t you feel kind of manipulated, duped, suckered, yes: even sorta used + abused or something like that?

And this is written in plain daylight in an international leading newspaper and then no one says anything?

Well, it was just in today’s paper — so maybe it’s too early to judge.

But who is willing to bet against me — I take the side that this will not lead to any significant popular uprising. Anyone wanna bet?

Why not — why are people so LAME?!?!?

Blind leading the blind I guess, media say what they want to make something how they want it because they know that a large percentage of people will actually believe it without question and then the people who do not believe what the media say will believe what their friend or neighbour tells them, leaving out that the friend of neighbour got their info from the media.
Then it starts from there, and in most cases causes mass hysteria like all the epidemics apparently going on in the world.
I can imagine half of them are no where near as bad as what is divulged by the media but as we can’t be there first hand for allot of these events we either believe or we don’t.
