It all depends on how much you value your random belongings. Keep in mind that you can always put them up for sale. Ebay is a good place to auction off your items that are no longer useful or important to you anymore.

Yard sale and eBay are both a good idea, I agree with the other posts. I went through de-cluttering my place this spring and oh, it felt so good once I had clean space!

None of my old stuff was really worth selling, so I donated clothing to the homeless shelter and asked for a tax deduction receipt. Those shelters take in more things than just clothing, they take household items too. Pretty much anything…

I live on a busy street, so for large items that were too big to haul off, I sat them out on a pretty day and put a sign on them that said “free”. They were picked up.

Some things, I felt bad about getting rid of because they were given to me, either by a friend who didn’t want it anymore or as a gift (but I didn’t really like it too well). I re-gifted some of it. The rest of it, I read an article on de-cluttering which said you have to be RUTHLESS and I took that advice. I don’t regret it either.

I read something recently that said to get rid of everything that isn’t “useful,” “joyful,” or “beautiful.” Before my recent move, I decided that I needed to get rid of a bunch of stuff. Useful, joyful, and beautiful were good guides. Among other things, I donated around 150 books to the library for its book sale.

In that spirit, anyone wanna buy a 1986 Toyota MR2 or a 1986 Honda Nighthawk S with a blown motor? :)

You can also post stuff in the “Free” section of Craig’s list or on freecycle.org.
