im in a childcare class and i have to make a language arts lesson plan for a group of two and a half year olds.

I have no idea what a two and a half year old already knows and doesnt know yet. I don’t want to dumb them down or give them something too advanced. Do they know their farm animal noises yet? How about their ABC’s? Can they write their own name yet?

They probably don’t know their abc’s and can’t write. They can sing songs and do know farm noises I think.

2 and a half…they can’t write…umm…hmmm…try songs? They can probably color. I know some 2 year olds who can talk and stuff, but it really depends on the individual kid.

How about “Animals that begin with ‘A’” or the like. Focus on one letter. I don’t really know, though. That’s just what they do on Seseme Street.

there has to be a theme. my teacher gives us a list of themes each month and we have to plan lessons around one of the themes. i forget what they all are…but some of them are self, grandparents, farm animals, and mother goose. I was thinking itd be easy to do a lesson on farm animals and what noises they make. Is that too basic or too advanced?

That sounds like a good idea, I like it.

okay.
so can i give them a picture of the animal to color
then when one kid finishes ask him/her what noise the animal makes
then say wooooo good job and then ask him/her to find the animal on a tray of animal toys.
then give the kid an stamp or sticker of the animal
and do you think that’ll take about 20 minutes for a group of 5-10 kids?
and also…how old are you guys and do you have kids?
