What causes the emptiness inside of us?

We all know it’s there. Somewhere in all of us. This empty spot that comes up from time to time with a longing so powerful it cuts you in half. You know you need something but you don’t know what. Something is missing… Something that you’ve wanted all your life but you don’t know what it is. You realize that something is wrong with the world but you don’t know what it is.

Do any of you know what? I’ve been searching… and haven’t found it. But it’s there.

Some people go 100 years without filling that empty spot in their soul and lives. But they search until the very end.

It probably has to do with love. I know what you mean though. Because every single time im happy without fail like at the pinnacle of my happiness all of the sudden I realize that shes not mine I dont cry or nothing but it really gets me thinking about how much I love her and would wish i was with her every time I was happy and every time I was sad. So yea i found my missing piece in first grade. But I havent really put it in place yet. But yea good luck dude or dudet we all search for it sometime. Luckily I found mine early on and never felt that void. Well I did actually from 4th grade to 8th grade. Because last year she came back into my life and im so god da mn happy about it. But you know I still have to work to get her.

I will resist the urge to preach. Almost.

It’s been written about. A lot. Read the last chapter of the Great Gatsby, for example.

Some people think it just can’t be fulfilled, some people think stuff on earth will satisfy it…

CS Lewis thinks it means we aren’t actually from this earth, because what’s the point of having a desire nothing can fulfill? And I happen to agree with him. No, I don’t think we’re aliens. Not exactly. ;3

And I didn’t exactly preach, right? Right? :D Haha I’m in a weird mood, I’m proud of myself for being vague and making no sense.

I’ve heard of what you’re talking about it and it almost had me fooled for a while. But it’s still there :\

Awwh well, that doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t true…that emptiness is still gonna be there until we get to our real home, that’s all. We’re homesick.

Maybe it is. Who knows. We’re not going to find out until it’s all over.

One thing that strikes me is that it feels so similar to the emotions you get when losing someone that was very dear to you. Except that this sort of thing never goes away completely. It’s always there and pops up when you least expect it. Heh - it got to me a few hours ago.
