The battery on my laptop stopped recharging

or rather, it stopped recharging to full power. At first it would still work, but for shorter and shorter periods of time. I called Dell (it’s a Dell), and they said this was normal, that eventually a battery just doesn’t charge anymore.

About a year later, I finally bought a new battery for my laptop. It came fully charged and worked great until the first time I used it (and drained it of it’s power). It won’t recharge at all. This makes me think my original problem wasn’t the first battery at all but probably had something to do with the connection and/or my computer’s ability to charge it.

Is this a fixable problem, or is my laptop now just a very compact desktop?

it’s probably just the battery, all Li ion batteries are like that, how far down did you let the new one go? if you completely discharge one it won’t charge back

I didn’t let it go all the way down.

Mostly it was just in use when my computer was being transported from one location to another. I’d plug the computer in again right away, but the battery didn’t regain any charge, and eventually (after doing that enough times), there wasn’t any power left.

generally the system won’t let it go down completely, mine goes on standby when the battery warning comes on

k, I’m not seeing anything about power supply problems on your model, I’d say it’s just a faulty battery. you could always try the dell diag system, restart the computer and when the bios comes up it should say something like F2 for diagnostics
