computer help: Antivirus Pro 2010 is actually a virus that is pretending to be an antivirus program, as I have researched online. - Help.com

Antivirus Pro 2010 is actually a virus that is pretending to be an antivirus program, as I have researched online.

I followed some tips to download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, which I did, and when I run it, it scans and removes the virus and infections, but when I log on again the viruses keep coming back? Somebody please help if you can, thank you.

Malwarebytes uses highly sensetive heuristics detection which means it detects things that ACT LIKE viruses, even when they sometimes aren’t. The up-side is that it catches almost everything that Is a virus. down-side is it catches a lot of stuff that isn’t a virus.

This sort of software is called a “rogue antivirus”. I made a detailed video and post about how to remove it on my website. I can’t post the video here. Does anyone know if it’s ok for me to link my personal tech support site? It’s free and all that, so no conflict of interest or anything.

i’ll just post it here. If a mod reads this, and it IS against the rules to link a personal website, please send me a message and let me know and I won’t let it happen again. Thank you. :-)

You downloaded smitfraud fix, updated it, booted into safe mode, and did all those options to clear everything out?

Did malwarebytes identify files or registry keys associated with antivirus 2010?

Perhaps I can remove it manually… www.howtoshotweb.com - Use the button at the top-right to call my support team. I’ll walk them through removing it if it’s anything like the previous versions I’ve dealt with.

I downloaded smithfraud fix, checked for updates, then restarted it in safe mode and then went back into smithfraud fix and used the clean option. I clicked yes to the one thing it asked me about and then rebooted again and it is still there.

Sorry but I really dont know anything about malwarebites files or keys r anything like that?!

I’ll try calling you now, thanks so much!

Hey tried calling but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’m calling from Ireland so maybe that’s the problem?
Sorry and thanks again!
