school help: Husband was laid off 7 months ago and because I work at a school outside all day in 107 temp. - Help.com

Husband was laid off 7 months ago and because I work at a school outside all day in 107 temp.

I ended up with heat exhaustion. But because I had mental confusion and kept falling asleep during this, I think it was closer to heatstroke. This happened a week ago at work and I have been still feeling weak and tired after all this time. Also my husband had to come to my job and bring me to the emergency room, they did not want to be involved.
My boss just called today and said that he could not figure out any work for me to do inside until it gets cooler. I would have to wait until it cools down and not work at all until then and then only a few hours a day outside.
I think that he does not want to fire me because of having to pay for unemployment so he is waiting for me to quit. I just can not believe this after working so hard for the last 5 years at this job that I am suddenly now in this situation. I really love all these kids I have watched grow up over the years, so it is a little diferent than most jobs.
If my husband was working it would not be such a huge deal, but I am really unable to do anything but pray to God he will open up something for us both. Thank you kindly for any input.

Been in the heat myself, and had what you had. Have to work. So, drink the water and rest when you can. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty, drink water ahead of time and hydrate yourself. If you feel thirsty, you are already getting dehydrated. It’s a beast of a summer. Good luck.

If you got heat stroke in and out of the course of your workplace it is considered a work related injury and your lost time and medical is required by law to be reported. File a w/c claim. If this is in Calif. the governer just signed a bill requiring people who work outside to have breaks in 85 degree or less locations and plenty of water. Its also OSHA required to have water by employer. If this is a state school district then OSHA does not apply.

best of luck…

I am very sorry to hear about your problem.
You should always try to find a positive in any negative.
This is just another chapter in your life and you should make it a good one.
I would say that you should post your resume up on career sites. I had mine on monster and I have gotten a few calls from places hiring. I don’t even have an extensive career history.
You having 5 years as a teacher at a school will look really good on your resume. I know that quitting will be hard but these are tough times to go unemployed as you already know.
Also, your boss doesn’t sound like a good person if he is making things tougher for you then they already are. You shouldn’t have to deal with that.
This is only my opinion and I wish you the best of luck.

Yes this is in CA. and this is a Charter School. They made us sign something along the way that stated that they would not be liable for any injury’s at work, that we would need to pay for that out of pocket. Which I signed because my husband had it covered, now we are paying out of pocket for it.
If we were to take a break inside, it had to be after children were finished with lunch around 1:20.
Do you think I can still file a claim if my husband did not tell the emergency room it was work related when they asked him. I am not trying to cause any problem for my employer I just do not want to be unaware of how to handle it.
Thanks for the help out there :)

My husband has been a Truck Driver 14 years working with heavy equipment deliveries in San Diego, Ca area. He has been looking for work for some time and has not found a job. Is there any one who knows of work along these lines or anything related to Truck Driving. Thanks keep on trucking.
