The Big Time.
A good friend took me to dinner
at a high class restaurant
We got to talkin’ and he asked a question:
What it was really want
I guess I didn’t understand the question
“what does everybody want?” I said
a little happiness and some peace of mind
and then I said somethin’ ’bout my daily bread
And he said,
“Naw man, you’ve been been goin’ for years now
playin’ music and travellin’ around
face it man, you ain’t gettin’ any younger
and I’ve seen how the business can get you down
Whats it gonna take to hit the big time?
Whats gotta happen to take that bow?
I took another bite of my chicken fried steak
said “What makes you think that I’m not there now?”
I Told him about all the people I meet
folks like you who enrich my life
I named my children and the girl I married
he knows I married up, cause he knows my wife
When the weekend comes
and I grab this guitar
this crazy big time thing begins
Every night I’m throwing a party
with a room full of my closest friends
Just how much more can my life hold?
If I was a miner I done struck gold
I couldn’t be having a bigger time

So if you think the big time is playin’ arenas
Or being on television every night
Ridin’ in a limo
and livin’ in a mansion
and havin’ my songs sell more bud light
Well man that stuff’d just drive me crazy
Duckin’ Paparazzi at the Holiday Inn
Money, and Fame, and a Washboard stomach
Its the devil in a deep blue sea my friend
And yeah, there are times when I get frustrated
everybody does
It ain’t no big deal
but this is my dream
and you’re welcome in it
And I thank you all for making it real
So ill stay here right under the radar
