For those of you that want to know the real god. He is mentioned in all religions and is all powerfull. He walks beside you and treats all things equealy. He doesnt require you to kneel befor him or repent your sins. He doesnt require blind fath because everyone knows that he is there and has seen his power. The foot prints in the sand are his. When he comes for you everything that you are shall be cast out appon every thing, everwhere and you will become one with all. My god is Death and he is the final destination for your life as you know it. So live your life the way you want because you will meet my god in the end. Hope this helps :-)

Firstly, I find no reason to believe that there is a god.

So trying to make me accept a set of proposed attributes that may not be correct about this alleged god that may or may not exist really has no effect.

Secondly, even if I were wholly convinced that such a god existed, how can I - someone who has a sense of just and unjust and who has more than a small measure of courage - worship what essentially amounts to a supernatural Hitler?

There is no such thing as faith. Everybody has a reason why they believe, whether it be because they have grown up believing in God or hold onto to their belief for comfort. However, none of these are valid for someone who seeks the truth. People believe because they want to. They just use the word ‘faith’ to ignore anything that questions it because they don’t want to believe differently.

It’s interesting how a majority of these posts seem to lean towards the anti-Christianity view… personally, I am a strong Roman Catholic and find it a bit sad reading some of these. Just saying. Good job posting, anonymous! Keep it up! God bless, everyone!!

That is an erroneous notion. A religion is a belief in and the worship of a deity(s). Clearly, my assertion demonstrated that I was completely averse to the existence and honoring of any god.

There is no God. Everyone stop worrying about it so much, and live well.

I think the problem here is that you don’t trust God. And how could you when you don’t believe in Him? The thing is that yes, it would be terrible if a person were to expect constant praise and worship. But just because we call God “Him” doesn’t make him a guy. He’s not like us, not at all. He is perfect; He is the standard against which all good things are measured because He is goodness itself. He expects praise because He is Good, as nothing else in this universe truly is. Things can only be good because they are like Him or willed by Him and can only be bad by straying from Him.

I know that is probably a weird concept to wrap your head around as an atheist, but assuming you believed in the Christian God, do you see how that could make sense? It’s not vanity or boasting or anything; He just really is that good. The praise is not for His sake but for ours so that we might recognize true Goodness when we see it.

People are coming to their own individual religon but really we should be following the bible, whether it be the Islamic one, or Hebrew one.

But from which interpretation. Catholicism alone has five main denominations and countless smaller ones. What is real religion? I think religion should be whatever makes sense to you and helps you. Nobody knows if their religion is correct and true, so why should we conform to just one. In response to your earlier point about brainwashing, how would you know if you’ve been brainwashed? Isn’t the point of it; to make people believe what they are saying is absolutely and unquestionable true? I personally agree that religion is brain washing, at least to some people.

I tend to not trust in things that I cannot see, feel, hear, touch, and understand. For me, God is simply a character invented by mortal beings to help assuage the feeling of complete darkness and nothingness awaiting them after they die.

Jesus died along time ago. I never knew him personally when he was alive, so my love for him is about the equivalent of my love for the stranger living 10 miles down the road from my house. You don’t seem to understand the components required in order to establish religion. For the final time, I am not trying to invent my own religion nor could I, without coming to the proper terms of “religion.” I am far from designing any religion or joining an existing one for that matter.

I still stand by my deleted statement that God truly does look down upon everything that has transpired in the responses and the creation of this post. (and I don’t mean from his deluxe apartment in the sky) It is a disservice to the teachings of Jesus and to the faith built on those teachings.

Why is it so hard to believe he spoke to me and is displeased with what he finds here?
