Harassment help: My original post on cyberbullying (209641) has disappeared. - Help.com

My original post on cyberbullying (209641) has disappeared.

Could someone shed some light on this please?

I guess I’ll have to repost it, in the meantime if anyone needs the information (it contained useful advice to those suffering harrassment or bullying online) then just get in touch.

Thanks.

love

Not the first time I’ve seen a post disappear though. Don’t moderators have the ability to completely delete posts?
And welcome back, 1 year late.

Thank you. Not quite a year though - unless I hit a time warp somewhere!

I would have thought that if they had, they would have at least said why?

I can’t imagine why it would be deleted. Surely that would only happen to offensive posts?

There must be some other explanation.

I was thinking more in the direction of rogue mod. Perhaps another of the site’s bugs.

Indeed. I think deletion is a one way thing. Wouldn’t hurt asking Ditzy or Dani though.

Well, at least the one linking to a support site in UK for young people is still there.

I would hate that to be deemed worthy of deletion.

I think it’s important that internet users are fully aware of what help is out there on this issue.. and what they can do about it.

So many people post for help about it. And what is help.com for if not to help eh?

Tea anyone?

I didn’t refer to the reason of deletion. Like I said, it could be a rogue mod or site bug, but once it’s deleted, then nobody can bring it back to life.
I think you’ve done a great job with that post, mum. Without even seeing it.
No thanks, I’m not used to drinking tea… whenever. And I wouldn’t like another one of your computers ruined.

Yes, I know you didn’t refer to a reason.. I was just wittering/quacking my thoughts aloud, so to speak.

Maybe that’s what happened! Tea Transfer Version 3.6 messed up the post store !

One plausible explanation as I am not a mod I can’t say for certain maybe somebody hijacked it, and so the mods closed it until the original poster reappears. Also I have found one post about cyber-bullying it wouldn’t be that would it? http://help.com/post/209806-what-to-d…

Hello there Luck! I hope that’s correct because I’m here now so it will save me reloading it all!

The post you have there is the one I made to go alongside no. 209641 (which highlighted things like legal obligations, what constitutes criminal behaviour, how to go about reporting harassment online and all that sort of thing). No. 209806 links to a support site in UK which is also helpful and gives advice on protecting yourself in the first instance.

Good to hear from you again!

unless it is a glitch in the computer, I remeber a user had no box for you to shout to her, until somebody used a shoult trail and shouted her out of trouble (it was a shout that caused the glitch) and it may just be hidden due to someone hacking it.

Is it a case of deleted being restorable and wiped not? What would cause a post to get wiped?

So most likely nothing can be done.
Do moderators have the ability to ‘wipe’?

Ohhai :D Sorry - just sorting out ModQ.

Anon above me is right. It looks like the post/user was completely wiped. Moderators can close a post, or delete a post. Doing those two actions would remove it but Moderators would still be able to be view it - but that post is completely missing. The link just takes me to the home-page (like it would for a user) So it leads me to believe the post/user was wiped. Some thing we cannot undo.

I’m sorry. I have not wiped any body in ages - and we cannot wipe singular posts.

Hmm.

Well, given I as a user have not been wiped… it would seem that the post was therefore wiped by a moderator?

This strikes me as an odd thing, since a) the post was moderator-approved at the time. b) you would think there would have been some communication on the matter had there been good reason to wipe it.

I cannot therefore imagine that it was in any way “objectionable”? Unless it contained something that someone, somewhere did not wish to be seen? No, I can’t imagine that either .. that would suggest either conspiracy or a misuse of privilege.

Little green men I expect. Or tea in the works.

unless it is a glitch, come to think of it, my replies were dissappearing a while ago, and they somehow corrected itself, not removed disappeared, as if I never posted on the post, so that could be what is happening here.

I agree that it is a little strange.

Moderators do not have the ability to wipe a post - so it cannot be misuse of power. It has to be higher up.
Moderators can only wipe an account/user - and that is only used when all the information needs to be completely removed and not just banned. Which is pretty much never since we like paper-trails. Usually we just delete or ban, which leaves us with the option of seeing all the shouts, posts and replies.

I cannot comment on the content of the post because I had never seen it. I would bring it back if I could (providing there was nothing questionable in the replies) but it has totally gone.

Ah well.

I’ll just redo something similar and we’ll see if it gets abducted by aliens again.

It was a post written in the light of a news item on teenagers in UK (and one in US) committing suicide as a result of cyberbullying, Ditzy.

As we were getting a lot of posters needing help on it, I put together some advice on what could be done etc. and various links. It needed updating anyhow as the legislation has become tougher and there is even more support out there now.

In the meantime, if anyone is abducted by little green men in spaceships… please could you ask them to return my article? Ta!
