Anyone on the northern east USA that could help me know what areas are like that youve been to so i can know where to move?
I made this post before but i didnt really get the help i needed. Im looking more into the VA, PA, MD, NY region but im leaning more toward PA around Philadelphia or close to NYC or even NYC if I can find a way to afford it. Its so hard to do research. I wonder what jobs in those areas pay and what the people are like and things to do there and stuff.

I think Ithica NY is really nice. I really didn’t like the philadelphia area when I lived there, I thought people were really strange.
I used to live near Herndon Virginia which is evidently a good place to get technology related jobs.

Hmm im not too into tech jobs but i guess its okay
Strange like it seemed really traditional. I thought the rich people were snobbish and the poor people really negative.

eww im not sure i like traditional and i know i hate snobs =/
so how much does the cost of living in NY? like if i got an apartment or something
I’ve never lived there but it seems really high from what I’ve seen in movies and stuff.
Okay, its kind of confusing because if some places are more expensive i wouldnt know if they get paied more or not to counteract that lol
thanks anyways though :)
Check prices online might work. Also sorry I need to say I haven’t lived in Philly since the eighties. Good Luck!

I will look into it. But hows the jobs, colledge and the people? Thats important
There are books that describe and rate places to live. “Places Rated Almanac” is one, and it has been around a long time. However, reading about a city in a book is not the same as living there.
I also lived in Philly. I found the people to be very rude and offensive. They are also very parochial, thinking that anything outside of Philly is worthless. I hated it and left after a year.
I also lived in Raleigh. There are some nice parts of Raleigh, but it is very segregated, and I don’t mean by race. The native southerners stick together and don’t have anything to do with the transplanted northerners. Also, there are a few industries that are big in the Raleigh area and provide high paying jobs. Outside of those few industries, it can be very hard to find a decent, well paying job. After three years, I left.
I now live in SE Florida. I lived in Fort Lauderdale for two years, and I have been in West Palm Beach for six weeks. I also worked in Miami for a year. It is a strange, strange place! High crime, the different groups stick to themselves, high cost of living, bad drivers, the hot weather gets very old very fast, and hurricanes. Stay out of Florida!
Hope this helped.
hmmmmm so i guess what i heard is true that people in philly kind of suck =/
I guess Raleigh is kinda out too then it seems.
I like Baltimore County not Baltimore City because it is high crime. Mount Washington, around Pikesville is where I live and it is pretty decent.
i should start making a list on paper so if i go near an area i can know im there >_>

I think most jobs websites like Monster or CareerBuilder will have cost of living tools, so you can compare wages and expenses. Also, some of the larger real estate websites will have wages and housing cost statistics. I live in the South not the Northeast. I love Manhattan but it’s extremely pricey and competitive. Boston is beautiful but housing is outrageously expensive.
Just wondering, why the Northeast? I hate the cold.

Im just getting an apartment and i dont want to be too perminantly settled. I heard manhatan is nice too before like you said but expensive, i sust dont know how much expensive since ive never lived on my own before.
My parents live in there and my sister is currently pregnant and wants me to be around and also the girl i am in love with lived near by a few states over and i want to be around when she comes back so i might have a chance to win her heart over =/
Cost of living is a relative factor. In places like New York where the cost of living is high, wages tend to be higher as well. This is more true of professional positions, of course, so the higher cost of living will affect someone like a doctor or executive less than it would someone working in retail, etc.
yeah thats true but ive never worked a job before either so it gets confusing to me.

You will be looking for an entry level position, and those positions tend to be paid relatively less in areas with high cost of living. Basically, someone in an entry level position is going to earn about the same no matter what city or state he or she works in, so it’s harder to make ends meet in areas like New York where the cost of living is high.
That sucks because the smaller cities are very isolated sometimes so i tend to prefer larger ones =/
maybe living near a large city is better

What do you mean by a “smaller city”? There are plenty of very nice cities in the U.S. that aren’t as big as NYC, Chicago, Boston, etc., but they still are fairly big and have a lot to offer.
I just remembered a great site, City Data. This site has all kinds of information about both the larger and smaller metropolitan areas in the U.S., including cost of living ratios. City Data also has city specific forums, so if you have a question about a particular area, you can go to that area’s forum and ask your question. Check it out:
okay thanks
im getting so stressed out over this
