What is the biggest problem with help.com now? - Help.com

What is the biggest problem with help.com now?

Personally, two things. First, the site is TOO slow. Secondly, they need to go back to what worked in the beginning.

What do you think?

Yeah and what worked was having people running the place that actually wanted to be here and were involved in what was going on.
Brink back the days of KT1, Rocky, Eric and Jeff!
Since CBS took over no one has given a crap about this place and just seem to enjoy taking it appart bit by bit like a sadistic child pulling the legs off a spider and watching it wriggle around~How many legs can they pull of before it dies?

much faster site and the NEW questions were always on your notice. also, you could change your avatar.

the biggest one is the new question were always on your notice. You could decide which on you wanted to reply too. Now, there are questions that you never see and never have an opportunity make a comment.

I agree. This site when I first came here is nothing like it is now. This site is about helping people, people who need comfort or advice or just get things off their chest. How can the people who run this site not realize how essential this site is? This site has helped me so much! I went from 3 panic attacks a day to anxiety mostly everyday but NO panic attacks at all! How can they not care about this site?

I would have to agree with Lazy. This site however, is still a wonderful place. And I would not ever want it to die down. If it ever does, I hope another very similar one will find its way to the cyberworld. I’m sure that’s possible!

You know, if they would only listen and bring the auto-scroll back on posts, it would really help a whole lot!! But who listens to me? So I might as well remain anonymous! lol

Ciao friends! :):)

My biggest problem with Help.com is that people that seem to respond to posts simply to poke fun, or be very judgmental towards the posters. I think that kind of attitude defeats the purpose of help.com. I think if you don’t like a post or the poster - don’t respond. You have no idea how desperate, sad, confused or sensitive the person on the other side of the post may be, ya know?

I agree, i only respond to posts that either i have been in the same boat or have ideas to help ans solve issues. And people come here so they won’t be made fun of, but ther are those people that don’t see that they are poking fun and makinf situations worse.

Well, I’ve been here 2.5 years. The first couple were using a 10 year old crappy computer so it’s not like I notice a speed difference. It seems to me help has often had downtimes but bounces back. The instant updates were painfully slow for me so I don’t miss them. I use a lot of tabs in my browser and it’s easy for me to refresh one tab and hop to another.

The main thing is I come back because I get a sense of personal value by sharing my mistakes, screw-ups, epiphanies, and other hard-won scraps of practical experience with others to maybe help them escape problems I dealt with for decades, problems that cost me dearly in life experience. I try to focus on the root cause of problems which often entails bypassing the main issue someone may be trying to talk about. By doing this regularly for others, I find my mind works very differently now on my own problems. I still have my old bad habits but now I am challenging them and changing them in a daily battle.

So I value help.com as a resource for boosting my self worth, practising my problem solving skills, working through my own issues, and listening to what others have to say. The technical features of this site don’t really interest me all that much as long as I can read and post.

Same with me. I don’t know any of those people that were mentioned above. I can read and reply to posts, so that seems pretty good to me. I don’t know the technical/computer side of the problems. The one thing that I don’t like is that after sending a reply, I have to hit the refresh button in order to see any new replies (that were posted after mine).

~I wish that we had the ability to delete our own posts.

~I also wish for a place where we can contact a mod, or maybe a spot on here that would say which mod was on, so we can contact them through that. The only way that I think we can contact them is to flag a post, then say in the flag comment that you want to talk to them and hat nothing was wrong with the post. I’m sure that it would be annoying though. The only other way that I can think of is to maybe wait to see if a mod (if you know the name of one) in the “recently online” area on the “front page”.

P.S. There is a page that you have to agree to when you join this site. It’s REALLLLLY long. I don’t think that most people read it all bc it took me forever and a day.

I don’t know how that would work. Many people don’t use credit cards or feel comfortable with systems where we’d pay online. Many people seem to be in a financial crisis. I don’t think that they would be able to do it. The people that need help right away might just get discouraged. I’d probably pay 5$/year to stay. With our numbers, I’m sure that we wouldn’t need to py more than that. Out of curiosity, how many people are on this site? Is there a counter?

Well if you click on your profile you will see up in the url bar at the top is the link to your profile as well as a number, that number is was number user you are at that time to register so what ever that number is you can say there is no less than that many users lol
BUT the downside to that is it includes all the people that are no longer here and also the people that registered but never used it etc

I think it was a pay site, it would ruin what we have here. We would not have all the new people who are just looking for a little advise or support. They would not pay to come in. Maybe if you get so much time free then have to pay to continue on be here. That might work.

Considering the time I spend on reading and trying to understand and analyze the posts on this site and give practical advice, I would not pay. I am making a serious contribution of time. That’s my part of the bargain and it is plenty.

I wouldn’t go paying - too many people would leave

A donations button, so people could donate when/if their problem was fixed would be sterling however

If you /really/ wanted to pay to help others, maybe you should get a cut of that pot!

But come on people! this website is based on the principle of helping others, for no reward, except possibly that warm fuzzy glow that you get when you have done a good deed, and someone is better off because of you!

Bringing money into this only brings all the crap that comes with money, and it will destroy the principles of this site faster than ANY admin ever could!

yes - having the list back that was based on the tags would be lovely
yes - the auto update was good

but the site still works!

there are improvements that could be made, fixes that could be done, but thats true of ANY site - if you /want/ a pay site, there are already plenty that exist out there - nothings stopping you from leaving and going to one now!

WE are what makes help.com worthwhile - not anyone else.

My problem is: new question were always on your notice under the old system. You could decide which on you wanted to reply too. Now, there are questions that you never see and never have an opportunity make a comment.

But, having said that, the activity was much greater then and it seems they want less activity. Right or wrong…what do you think?

I know that I can tag a post that I make, but do you mean that there was a seperate tag thing for your interests, or the only tags that matched tags from your post would go to you? I don’t know that I would have liked having posts similar to mine being sent to me. If I couldn’t fix my own troubles, then there is no sense in sending people with similar problems my way, I don’t think. Know what I mean? If they were different tags, of our own choosing, then that would be nice.

You can set tags on your profile so yes of your own choosing, so you put things that you think you can help other people with. Not necessarily people with the same problems, but even people with the same problems is good, you understand each others situations.
