I just had an emotional breakdown, and I’m about to go to university and I can feel another one starting.

It’ll ruin the first week of university for me. I feel lonely and scared. Last breakdown I had I couldn’t function properly for about two weeks. I don’t know how to avert this next meltdown. They’re so bad they physically hurt.

Is anything on your mind or is this a general thing?

I don’t want to leave people behind, I split up with my boyfriend recently, and that combined with a few little things just knocked me off course. It felt like I was just going to shut down.

Awww…I’m not a therapist or anything, but I would guess that, save for your bf, all those people are still going to be waiting at home for you. They aren’t going to abandon you. :)

Thanks, it just gets really scary, especially if this breakdown comes when I’m on my own and not really settled in, I’m worried I’ll end up doing something really stupid.

There will be plenty of people there to help you too, you aren’t going to be on your own. There is sure to be plenty of counselors and friendly peers to help you out.

Counties are offering a lot of preventitve mental health services. Call the Department of Behavioral Health for a referral if you need help. A lot of it is free.

Deep breathing also works wonders. So does walking to relieve anxiety.
