Archetypes Project — I’m stressing out and starting to feel depressed…
My teacher assigned a project but didn’t tell much about it, and I’m not very creative and feel very unprepared… It’s a “research and analysis presentation on Hebrew and Greek archetypes” but we haven’t done anything related to it at all in class. How many Greek/Hebrew archetypes are there? Which ones are Greek, and which ones are Hebrew? How can I present them and make it around ten minutes (but not more)?
The Journey
The Fall
The Quest
Mother
Father
Child
Daughter
Son
The Hero
The Martyr
The Devil
The Maiden
The Wise Old Man
The Self
The Shadow
Trickster
Poet
Virgin
Visionary
Artist
Athlete
Avenger
Judge
Lover
Are those all right? What should I add/not include? Where can I find good information to tell about them? Not research applying to one particular character, but generalizing it…
Examples from the handout she gave us (but doesn’t tell us how to DO the project…):
The Devil: The evil incarnate character who offers worldly goods, fame, or knowledge to the protgonist in exchanged for possesion of his soul; is found in the Bible and is called Satan.
The maiden: represents purity, innocence, and, in all likelihood, naivete.
The self: The self is the ultimate unity of the personality. The personification that best represents self is Jesus Christ, who many believe achieved perfection.
