is it possible that i could be depressed when i have a loving family, and there’s nothing extremely wrong with me.

i feel guilty for feeling ‘depressed’ when to some it would seem like i have a perfect life. im to embarrassed to tell my psychologist this, because im sure she see’s so many people who have actually gone through much worse stuff than me.

You are who you are. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Anyone can become depressed.

Depression spares no one… it’s a disease. Think of it as a cancer. Would you be embarrassed if you had cancer?

Seek help, I implore you, before it gets worse; it sounds like you’re not in too bad a situation right now. If it helps, write down how you feel and show it to your psychologist. Please.

Depression is a medical problem, just like diabetes or a heart condition. It’s not a matter of just being stressed or distressed.

Yeah exactly what the peeps above said, you cant help it and can’t control it. Don’t be ashamed of it either, just reach out for help and be open about it, its not good to keep it in.

idk this is just me, but i think people in worse positions, like you are talking about, are depressed in part because they cant do something they want to do. so idk maybe you should find something you love to do, and try doing it. it could be chemical, but it could just be that you feel like youre lacking purpose

thanks everyone, ill try to bring it up with my psychologist.
amazongrrl71 ive tried your theory so many times, and i kind of do have things i love to do, but i cant find any motivation to do them a lot of the time. i keep trying to get motivated and just do it because its good for me but… yeah i feel like i lack purpose, but when i was happy i did lots of great things. i used to believe what you are saying, but now i think there is a lot of other things wrong with me, not because im not finding something ‘i love to do’, if you get what i mean, its kind of hard to explain. i just dont see a way out of my situation, and i dont know if i will be happy again, so i dont see the point in ‘doing something i love’, if i cant find a solution to all my other problems.

but i also find it hard to believe its a chemical imbalance, i mean there are things wrong with myself and my life i wish could change, and a lot of the time dont believe they will change, i dont just like feel sad for no reason…

Counselling will help with both. Depression usually contains both elements. A chemical imbalance is present, then things go wrong in your life and seem much worse than they are. Tunnel vision and a persistent feeling of being alone, helpless and hopeless result. Counselling can help break the cycle; and medication can help fix the underlying imbalances.

oh, actually yeah that makes sense. i think im starting to realise that maybe i do need help, i keep trying to tell myself im being stupid, and selfish and i can make my life better by myself, but, well it never really works.
