I have an issue with my cat. - Help.com

I have an issue with my cat.

I recently adopted a 1 year old cat that I fell in love with. She was wonderful for a while of having her, but recently I found out that my apartment complex charges a 100$ pet deposit and a 25$ rent fee for having a cat which is the same for having a dog. This is money I do not initially have.

Also, lately a few things she’s been doing has been seemingly irritating me very easily, and I’m not typically this type of person. She drags kitty litter in her paws absolutely everywhere in my apartment. I know this is not her fault but I wind up vacuuming twice a day because of it. She also tends to jump up on my kitchen counters while I’m at work. I know this because I’ve found kitty litter paw prints on my counters. I’ve tried leaving baking sheets on the edges of my counters full of water, but it hasn’t worked yet. She also tends to jump into my clean linen closet which has no door. I’ve tried to stop her and train her not to do this, but nothing’s helped and I’ve given up and dealt with the cat hair all over my clean sheets. I guess I’m just looking for advice what to do…

Do you have a carpet squared layed out near the litter box? this will help the cat “wipe” its feet.
jumping on the counter you can do a few things..if you are in the area…you can put a few pennies in a old pop can, tape up the top of it, and sake it when you see him/her jump on the counter.. the second thing you can do is spray counter top with ammonnia ( spelling is wrong but i think you know ) very lightly when you go to bed once the cat jumps up it will not like the smell and will leap off.

you really should have looked into the rent etc BEFORE you adopted the cat.
as for going places you dont want it to, you can buy sprays from pet stores that will keep the cat away from certain places.
or what dyqui said above works also.
you made the decision to adopt the cat, so now you have the responsibility to look after it, wether it frustrates you or not.

u cant train cats, first of all start using paper instead of kitty litter, paper may not be as absorbant as kitty litter but its cleaner. for him jumping up on the side, i suggest closeing the door when you leave your house, or try puttin tin foil on the counter, as i heard that works cant say for 100% as i have never had to do it before, and for ur clothes, put a towel over it so he cant get into it, or 1nce again close the door so the cat cant get in

Yeah I have a mat in front of the litter box, but it doesnt seem to help much. I might try the ammonia thing as far as the counter trick.

I did look into the rent before I adopted the cat. I scoured my lease and the apartment website for all types of information, but all it gave was about dogs so I figured cats were not included. It was only until I stepped into the office today for a question that I found out they charge you the same as dogs. I’ve had her for a while now and I haven’t said anything to anyone about owning a cat because I figured there weren’t any conditions since it wasn’t in my lease. It’s not like I jumped into it without thinking things through first.

on the contrary, cats are completely trainable. they learn, just like any other animal.
