CAR ACCIDENT…

this is wat happened to me,

On July 10, 2009 I was driving down i75 in Naples, FL in my friend’s black explorer with two of my other friends, one in the front passanger nd one in the back. There was cones placed by an entrance ramp coming up and I was in the right lane closest to them, now I look at the speedometer for one second just to see what speed I’m going making sure I’m not speeding when the back passanger tells me to look out! I look up to find that I was going to hit a cone, my first instict was to turn the steering wheel the opposite direction and in doing so I over corrected the vehicle so to prevent an accident with another car I turned da steering wheel back the other way and the car keep swirving hard, luckly not hitting any other cars but the back passanger got thrown out onto da grass right before the car rolled over 3 times and landed on its side.(passanger side) everyone was alive and breathing, me and front passanger walk out through the back.

At the hospital, thank God, no broken bones just bumps and brusies for me. They gave me pain killers and sent me on my merry way. The guy that got thrown out was diagnosed with Atelectasis, the fall collapsed part of his lungs(upper). The front passanger cut her leg around the ankle and had to get 25 stitches. BUT….it wasn’t over for me, I started taking the pain killers and they didnt even tickle. My back was in pain, I thought to myself “It’s normal,I jus got into a almost fatal accident. I’m lucky” riiiggghhtt? well, its been 2 months since the accident and the pain has not gone away. I’m 19 years old with no health insurance and unable to work. Car Insurance covered everything including my missing days at work for that week. I went back to work to find myself crying due to the pain sooo they terminated me.(thats what they call it)

Now that you know the information, heres the series of questions:

Do I qualify for disability even if I have nothing broken or misplaced?

What doctor can I see not having health insurance?

Is there anything I can do right now to help this situation?

Jobwise, I worked for less than a year, can I still qualify for unemployment?

I know Im young and I should suck it up and take it like a man. but I really dont see this situation getting any better. I haven’t been able to crack my upper back since the day prior to the accident. Sitting here right now typing all this hurts my back. I cant stand or sit for too long, time spand of give or take 30 to 45 mins. It takes me 15 to 30 mins just to sit up on my bed in the morning.

all in all..

1) Talk to your insurance company to see if there is any coverage for your injuries even though you’re reporting it late.
2) Go to a doctor and get your back x-rayed. You need to know if there are any breaks or disc slippage that can be endangering your spine. A preliminary exam should cost you maybe $100 without insurance with a regular GP, but if you go to a country or reduced cost clinic you could pay a lot less. Also, most doctor’s offices and hospitals can refer you to whatever state medical assistance you’re eligible to apply for, especially since you’re unemployed.
3) Apply for unemployment. The only way you can know if you can get it is to apply so it doesn’t hurt to fill out a little paperwork, right?

I’ve also been in a car wreck and I had to deal with neck pain for a very long time. Sometimes it still comes back to haunt me. It’s not necessarily a sign of a serious injury, but it can be and should always be checked. Also, if left untreated, many back injuries have a way of worsening so make sure you do whatever you can to get it taken care of immediately.

First of all thank you for the information Nyxotic, and second, I did talk to my insurance the day after, they covered my hospital bills and even compensated the hours that i lost that week. The hospital took Xrays the night of the accident and everything appearently came out fine.Im just wondering, can the car insurance cover any follow up visits related to the accident? or whould i need my own health insurance for that?

That’s something you would need to ask your insurance because it depends on your coverage. If they covered your initial hospital bills, then I would assume that they will cover the follow up unless you’ve given them authorisation to close the file.
