Just some support

I’m a bit worried right now
Just got a call from the doctors, my partner has not had a checkup in the time ive known him, 8 years, Ive always been worried for his health, he overeats, not healthy food either, he drinks too much (doesnt get drunk but has at least a 6 pack of woodstock and cola over a week) smokes heavily, has a family history of cancer (he has a few suspicious lumps he’s refused to get checked)
Ive tried in vein to help him change his ways and seek medical advice.
It was only because we needed medical references that I managed to convince him we needed full bloodworks (we didnt really, I pulled a swifty)
The results are in, he has high cholesterol but thats not all, they couldnt tell us the rest so they made an appointment for him on friday.
I’m scared he might have something really bad that cant be fixed with a simple lifestyle change that I was hoping for :(
I’m glad I finally got to have him checked so we have found - whatever it is - but it might be too late, we wont know till friday
I guess first things first, we need to start lowering his cholesterol, any advice here, apart from keeping him away from junkfood and alcohol

Tell him he can trust you. >: It sounds like your life might be going into a kinda bad place in a little while, so try and have all the fun times you can now and don’t let him do the junk food thing. High cholesterol is actually a good excuse to cook some nice low fat suppers. >3 Rachael Ray recipes are nice, that’s what my aunt cooks and they all taste really good AND they’re low fat!

They may be calling him in to start him on medication. Try to put those thoughts that he is going to receive disasterous news about cancer or something like that.

Communicate with him and tell him that you have been worried for years now. That you don’t want something more serious to happen to him. He will know by your sincerity that you really want to help. He should regard and respect what you are trying to do for him to keep him healthy.

There is nothing like a good friend to see you through the many storms of life.

Thankyou, I’ll look up those rachael ray recipes
we’ve been talking alot last few hours and ive told him ive been worried for a long time and we’ve been discussing lifestyle changes all round.
Ive been keeping both him and myself occupied thinking about health and lowering his cholesterol so we dont think about the other results they said the doctor needs to discuss, I’m hoping its something simple like an iron deficiency, trying not to think of there being anything too serious

If this was indeed an extremely serious situation believe me your doctor would not have you and him wait at all. So take a little comfort in that.

Cholesterol is a very dangerous situation that can be controlled by a healthy food program (I hate the word diet!) It attacks and stresses the heart and the liver.

Dr. Oz’s is a good doctor that has a new TV show on everyday now if you live in the States. He is on 3:00 p.m. my time just before Oprah on Channel 4. If you go to his website he has hundreds of suggestions about controlling all types of health issues.

Realistically, it’s never a simple issue when someone lets him or herself go. Good luck.

Ta, I’m in australia so cant see his shows, but I can at least visit his site, I might be able to find a stream or download of his shows, this helps
Ive been researching alot about high cholesterol today, and to be honest, everything runs in line with the lifestyle Ive been trying to help him achieve in the last 6 months, Ive always kept pretty healthy myself but I wanted to go that one step further and have a good look at how we live so I did alot of research about 6 months ago and made some changes and tried to get him to become involved in learning about it all, he joined in for a little while but it didnt take long before I saw he was keeping his hotdogs and meat pies well stoked to counter the change I was trying to bring around for him.
I hope this will be a wakeup call for him and he’ll have more motivation this time

I have the same problem with my husband. He is Diabetic (Type II) and still does not pay too much attention to the Diabetic Food Program. He also has cholesterol problems and takes medication. He never exercises much and pretty much drinks alcohol whenever he feels like it.

His family lives into their nineties and never has suffered even having Diabetes. His mother would eat bowls of candy when visiting at friends homes, fall into a coma sleep, wakeup and resume her day. She lives to be 90 years of age. Go figure.

People will do what they want to do no matter how hard we try. Good luck to you and I hope he sees the light.

Your welcome, let’s us know how things are going. All you can do, as you know, is be there for him. He has to take the initiative. Doctor’s offices are filled with people who stuffed themselves with food and drink and don’t exercise.

People have to take responsibility for their lack of concern about their health. They expect Doctor’s to be God’s and to be able to repair anything that comes their way. Again, Good Luck.

you know whats sad is he was healthy when I met him, he was 31 and in good shape, we both put on a bit of what I like to call ‘couple chub’ you know how you relax a bit too much when your content, but his has just continued to get way out of hand over this time and he started just going with it instead of dealing with it :(

I know this situation very well because we all get content and along with Couple Chub also grow love handles along the sides of our bodies.

Well I hope he gets a wake up call and pays attention. My husband will have to get a big wakeup call before he does. Good luck.
