how can i make it last?

my boyfriend got me a necklace at a jewelry stand…(u know the kind that are fake silver) and the pendant is starting to get a little red around the edges on the back…how can i keep it from the whole thing going red…i moved it to a silver chain, but its the pendent that matters

and please no comments about how he should just get me an expensive one
