How does a 48 year old female find employment that is worthwhile, without a solid working history or a good resume, in Perth, Western Australia?

I want to work but cannot do a 40 hour week for health reasons. I want to do something that is fulfilling and useful , ie; not be a checkout chick. I am interested in horticulture and yoga and meditation and reading and writing. I have a B.A and an M.A but I have never used them for work purposes. I do not want to do data entry. I want something where I am involved with people but not as a waitress. I am happy to use the computer some of the day but dont want to be chained to it. I do not want to do sales work. So what could I go for - is there anything I could do?

Anonymous sounds like she has been looking for too easy a job situation.
I doubt employers would respond to her weak work desires. Too many don’ts.
She should probably try to start her own business, whatever that would be?

I’m sorry to say but I agree with gchya
employers need to know you are flexible to take on roles that may need temporary filling, even if its for a day, when they here you wont do this or that it cancels you out, you need to focus on what you are willing to do
that being said…
you need to go down to a job agency and have them help you write up a resume that will paint you in a good light
I have been with CRS, they are a government funded agency specifically designed for people with health issues, and they are the best job search agency I have worked with in preparing and helping you to find a job
look through your local telephone book, just start at the A’s and consider the options you see, this is what I did
I could not choose which path I wanted to go down for the life of me so I just opened the yellow pages and considered what I was presented with, I got to newsagency and thought perfect, it fits in with my already currant skills and I could see myself enjoying sharing information with the customers.
I picked up the phone and rang every newsagency in the book and one of them just happened to be getting ready to advertise a position, luckily I called them first, they didnt have to advertise and Ive been very happy working there since
if you can find a ‘canvasing’ group anywhere that would be a great start, I cant remember the stats but most jobs are found by approaching the employer yourself, not waiting for them to advertise a position, for a start, not all companies advertise, they like to ask their currant employers if they know someone, and if you wait to find an advertised a position you hav to compete against other applicants, like I would have had to and probably not got the job then
a canvasing group is great for teaching you all the tips and tricks in finding and keeping work, plus the people there ‘know someone’ thats looking to hire
CRS have a canvasing group
My tips for now, think of something you would like to do, say delivering goods , there are many places that need drivers, like a florist, you get to handle all those beautiful flowers, drive around and meet lots of people and experience their delight when you hand them a valentines day rose or a happy birthday basket

There are jobs and jobs. I think you can find something nice if you look for it. Good luck! Have you considered being a Yoga Instructor or working on a Flower shop.
