Need advice on CV/resume writing.

I’m long term unemployed, I want + need to get back into the job market, but how can my CV escape that glaring gap? + What can I say to interviewers when they ask me to explain it? Fortunately I did do some voluntary work, but the employment gap was still fairly substantial. I have an appointment with the CAB + I’ve been looking for advice online, but it doesn’t seem to address my question very well - it just says ‘leave out employment gaps’ -but surely prospective employers will immediately notice that and toss my CV in the bin? There’s also th reason for the long term unemployment, which was as a result of mental health problems. I need to find a way to explain that + my state now in a favourable light. All the other stuff like presenting yourself (+ your CV) well, pretend confidence, enthusiasm, being clued up about the company seems far easier to me atm than this first stumbling block, so I really would appreciate some advice from anyone who’s in or has been in a similar situation + managed to overcome it.

It was bcz of mental health issues, plus the longer it went on, the lack of confidence aggravated that

i see. i think that’s a pretty valid reason for having gaps in your resume. how about just saying you were ill, but not really going into details about it? although hmmm… do you think the company would ask for a medical certificate or something? to make sure you’re fit to work already?

if that is not an option, emphasize on your volunteer work. say that it’s something that you feel you needed to do. and that you feel that you owe it to the community to help. can you say that your time spent doing volunteer work is longer than it actually is? just so you can emphasize the side of you who is emphatic, civic-minded and at the same time sincere and kind.
