fantasy mainly, lol but im pretty open anything that would capture my imagination it doesnt have to be specific or anything ;)
Well honestly I personally happen to think the most important part of the story are the characters and whether or not the author can make the reader relate with their dilemmas and stuff.
It wont work if the reader doesn’t give a flying peanut about what happens to the folks.
ALSO.
NU MARY SUES PLZ.
kk no mary sues lol i think that they are really overused anyway and would make most ppl close the book at their first appearence ;) there just not very realistic tbh… u dont have to give me any characters or anything just a basic idea eg horror magic fairy tales etc
=)
Well… if you want someone to buy and read your stuff, you have to first attract them. So, to write something that no one has done before is 1)pretty hard to do, and 2) not all that smart in terms of marketing. People read things they like and right now vampires are the hot topic. I’m not encouraging you to write about vampires or anything like that, I just want you to make sure that your desire to write something completely new will not hurt your chances of being read. Writing something new normally has to wait until you are published. Look at Stephen King (any published author for that matter) he writes the same thing over and over again. Each is different and each is very good. Have you heard of the gunslinger series? If your a King fan I’m sure you have, but have you heard of The Eyes of the Dragon? Only if you are a die-hard King fan have you heard of it, because it was pretty much out of the genre that he normally writes. OK… off my soapbox now :)
One idea that I’ve always liked and haven’t done yet is write a novel from the perspective of someone else in an existing story. This is NOT plagiarism! For instance… you don’t have to write a vampire story like Bram Stokkers Dracula, but what if you “retold” that story from the perspective of say Renfield? or Johnathan Harker? Take a Grimms Fairy tale and retell the story from another characters perspective. What kind of story would the Huntsman from Snow White tell?
And remember, publishing now a days is very easy. My book is published on Lulu.com, and there are many other self publishing sites out there. Although it is best to publish with a legit publisher, self publishing is a start.

Thanks for that :P but there is always the problem that ppl get bored, rightnow everyone is obsessed with vampires but in a years time or so everyone will be bored of them and all of the possible vampire formats will have been exhausted. I was thinking of doing one of thoses rewritings so i will definitely give that consideration.
=D
Vampires. ;)
Nahh, I’m kidding. What about a kind of removed take on your own life? A coming-of-age novel?
Write a book about a boy who loses a ring, then goes out to look for it and along the way he encounters a lot of monsters and mishaps, and then he goes to a big tower, and then he returns to try to be the king?
Lol gay vampires i like that ;) jox yer i guess i could do one on my life but atm i dont really have a very interesting life, not one that anyone would want to read about anyway :)

Thats quite a cool idea actually, i could combine that with the whole fairtales and retelling story thing ie that all of the monsters are traditional monsters which are familiar but are see in a different light
Thanks lol ;)
I think that Western society is return to things very spiritual. The Shack, by Wm Paul Young, is very good and on the NY best sellers list. How about a story about a girl that is messed up in the head somehow; schizophrenia perhaps, and in her delusion she meets Buddha and Jesus… but is it really a delusion??

can we say lord of the rings?? lol
Actually, I would call Lord of the Rings Around the Collar because the boy never washes his neck and leaves all the shirts really dirty and disgusting around the collar.
hmm thats really interesting actually and it sounds really deep as well, it would cause a lot of work into what schizophrenia feels like but it would be a reeally good insight if it worked :)

If I were you I’d by one of the brothers Grimm books (Y’know the one with a bazillion volumes).
Just sit there and read through the short fairy tales.
They end up overloading your brain with ideas.
:D

it’s the year 2055, the largest powers in the world, the US, China, and Russia have teamed up with IBM to create the most powerful microprocessor in the world, but it backfires on them. the chip recieves self awareness and takes over the world
umm whats IBM mean?? that probably makes me sound so stupid :( lol
i always planned on buying a brothers grimm book, there so gruesome though :O like when the ugly step sisters in cinderella cut off bits of their feet :O discusting… :D
