health help: It seems like every time that I get up from lying down or sitting - Help.com

It seems like every time that I get up from lying down

or sitting that I feel very lightheaded and dizzy and my vision temporarily goes blank (for about 2-5 seconds). I haven’t had my blood pressure taken in awhile, but when I did about 2-3 weeks ago it was fairly low with the top number being 80. (I forget what the bottom number was.) I am a 15 year old female with a family history of high blood pressure. My parents aren’t fond of the idea of taking me to the doctor, and I don’t take any medication. I’ve already tried numerous symptom checkers like WebMD.
A huge thanks to anyone who answers!

just go to your gp surgery if its out like mine they should have a machine that you can use for free to check your blood pressure… failing that try at your local chemist

How come they won’t take you to the doctor?

Littlenick- They kind of take it as a burden, I belive. I’ve gone to the doctor before and they found nothing (it was for suspected carpal tunnel) even with going to a neurologist and having blood work.

I don’t think I have, at least nothing serious enough for me to remember it.

I really don’t like doctors. If whatever you have is not in a book the don’t know what it is. However, you can go to a doctor at the hospital that is a specialist in blood or something but that’s the best you can do. Go to a doctor whom has made symptoms like yours his specialty.

i would still go to a doctor then, even if you have to light a fire under your parents *** lol, tell them it might be serious :(

Haha, I’ve almost tried that. :) I’m giving hints that I’m not feeling well, so that might help. Both of my parents go to our doctor for every little thing and I have to literally complain about how I’m feeling every day for a few weeks before they think about taking me. Grr!

I have low blood pressure. (The lowest was 63/52, after a car accident) The symptoms that you describe happen to me all the time. My doc told me that exercising would help to bring my blood pressure to normal, and also improve my circulation. He also said to start slow and make sure that I do warm ups and ESPECIALLY cool downs.

Are you anemic?

low blood pressure and being anemic are the main reasons that could be happening.

If you are vegeterian you get it lots.

but you should go to the doctors just incase it’s something more serious.

- I do actually feel better during my physical education class, but we have to run a mile after warming up, which really makes me lightheaded if I don’t take it easy. Usually, when we only have to do one or two laps I feel just fine.
Bluecat- I haven’t been tested for anemia, but my mother has a mild form of it. That could be a possibility.
Something18- It’s funny, my parents are both being treated for high blood pressure since they are both overweight (to different extents). I’m fairly thin for my age, but I don’t have the right to say I eat healthy. I’m not vegetarian, but I only eat meat every week or so.

It’s easy enough to fix anemia. ;) Most likely you don’t exercise enough though. Why don’t you start lifting weights?
