A single father who has just lost his job is in need of help.
He has been searching desperately for some type of work to help take care of his 2 children, one small boy and a teenage girl. They both excel in studies at school, due to the father’s encouragement because of his lack of motivation to finish himself, however they are both not given the same chances as many other students in their respective grades. The father is willing to put himself back in school so that he can have more opportunities to help his children; he still will need immediate monetary relief to help his children while he searches for work and school simultaneously.
A Physics graduate student is developing a new technology to store and use solar energy efficiently. The technology is extremely far from refinement, possessing many flaws due to human error and technological inferiority. Theoretically the system works fairly well, and she has much faith in the development of the technology to make her revolutionary generator work. It would take years of concentration and hard work, but one would have no doubts or qualms about whether or not she was up for it once they saw her passion for Physics. As with any student, she lacks the funds to properly conduct research and tests on the matter, and her project is currently on a standstill. If she received the funds to continue the project, she would continue to work diligently; no doubt an investor would receive certain gain from the finished product.
Who would you fund? Who should society fund? I encourage you to give an opinion if need arises.

Only the graduate student should get any money. How stupid it would be to help an individual for success and not get anything in return, whereas with the Physics graduate student, not only would I be helping society in return, there is a greater chance for me to get money back. Win-win situations are the only way worth living.
I say help the father with the two kids because all will benefit in the end if the father is educated. As for the inventor, we have enough technology, we need to focus on family.
That is stupid.
What can you expect in return for helping the father? You’d only be helping on a minor scale.
Investing in the graduate student is the only logical choice.
And if we were at the pinnacle of technology, there would be no need for these debates on renewable fuel all the time.

Do you know that the letters of your last name if my last name too?
i would help the father, and i think also that society should as well. its kinda selfish to say you want to help a person if you are looking for something in return.

Selfishness should dictate everything you do. Why should man go out of his way to help another? What does he stand to receive? Why should I sacrifice anything for another man.
The only logical way to live is for yourself. Giving to another is iffy enough, but if you give to receive, then it is a fair and balanced trade.

The way you talk, ruff, you sound like you have it real hard. No one out there to help you. What a shame. I wonder why?

As I wonder for you as well; it is not the helpless who should receive recognition, but those who have succeeded. I will not reward those who have made bad choices, I will reward men who have conquered. There is no one to help me, because I have succeeded from my own merit. Because you are an ant who needs help from others to accomplish seriously implies the sufficiency you are capable of is that of a parasite.

The word is not ‘reward’, it is ‘help’. And in that light, why would you help those who have conquered and succeeded of their own merit over those who need help? That seems counterintuitive.

Loving unconditionally is the only way worth living.
