I’m an 18 year old girl with hopes and dreams of going

to college however, the lack of family support and the low income that my parents receive has stopped me dead in my tracks. I feel that I’m never going to amount to anything. On top of all this I’m the sister/mother in my household. I do the laundry, dishes, cook, clean, and I have been taking care of my two brothers ever since my parents split (over 10 years ago). I’m unemployed and feel that i will never have my own life on track. If there is any help for me please let me know.

College is not necessary for a good job. What skills do you have?

I don’t know exactly how low your family’s income is but if you really don’t have much money and you fill out a FAFSA you could get a lot of financial aid. And a lot of colleges are switching their aid from loans you would have to pay back to grants that you never pay back. Look for colleges with need-blind admissions policies that give students a high percentage if not all of their “demonstrated need” and you should still be able to go. If you still have to pay anything at all, you can often get a job right at your college to pay it off. Or if you are able to find a job outside of school, you can schedule your classes around it or maybe even consider an online college.

Don’t rule it out because of the money, there are lots of ways to work around that.
