Why can’t people lose weight?

I don’t understand why people need lap bands or surgery to lose weight. Can’t good dieting and exercise solve most obesity problems?

Gravity conspires to pull them harder in order to compensate for the amount of mass they lose. No matter what they do, they’ll weigh exactly the same. Gravity is a **** that way.

I blame food.

Food, glorious food!
What wouldn’t we give for
That extra bit more –
That’s all that we live for
Why should we be fated to
Do nothing but brood
On food,
Magical food,
Wonderful food,
Marvellous food,
Fabulous food,
Beautiful food,
Glorious food.

some people suffer grave psycological problems and there over eating is a manifestation of this. Yes eating healthily and exercise would help them however that requires mental and physical discipline. Some people just don’t have it in them to do this.
Eating alot is a way of altering your mood with out actually having to deal with the reality of your situation. It is a temporary fix that many find it hard to resist, and it becomes a vicious circle, the worse they feel about themselves the more they want to eat.

But how many people actually suffer from these severe psychological problems and how many just lack self discipline?

it’s because of their gens…i mean some r genetically fat…their DNA lead them fat…their body saves fat,no matter how much they do sport they can’t lose weight…what’s more, the more u lose weight, the less the pace of losing will be…i mean as u lose weight the act of losing becomes harder…

Help me with: hi every one,how r u?

lack of self discipline is a psychological problem and in its extreme form is severe. Some people are genetically challenged however all can loose weight. If the psychological problem is not resloved then the person will put it back on again. Who knows how many are in the severe bracket. Most people dont talk openly about how bad their mind is and what it is that really gets to them. Obessity is an outward expresion of self loathing/lack of self worth as smoking is an inward expression of the same (i believe anyway) Ask most smokers if they smoke because deep down they hate themselves and they would deny it because who wants to admit it. What ever there reasons for starting the only logical explination for continuing is you dont really like yourself. maybe im wrong but it makes sense to me especially as the smoker that I am. I can empathize with the struggle.

But if this is true, at least in some cases, then losing weight wont solve these psychological problems. The only time when i can see surgery being necessary is if someone suffers from a biological problem or that there obesity is posing an immediate risk to someone’s health.

well, for a very tiny minority of people, genetic factors influence them swaying toward being overweight. for some,t hey have an eating disorder.
but for the overwhelming vast majority, it is plain and simple eating too much and being too lazy.
