finances help: Nothing seems to be working for me. - Help.com

This post left anonymously

Nothing seems to be working for me.

I am trying to buy a house I can barely afford, and the sellers either reject the offer I make or counter at list price. I just feel I am getting nowhere, and if things do “work out,” I will be financially strapped.

A home can be a good investment. Can you afford to make the monthly payments on it? If not, stick to a rent scheme until you can. Good luck to you!

The payments would be tough on me for about a year. I cannot bear to rent anymore and pay someone else’s mortgage. Geeeeez, I am educated and work full time; how do the working poor afford a house and new vehicles????

I understand. Times are tough nowadays. I lost my job in June, and I’ve been doing what I can when I can lately. I recommend you just keep the faith, and do as much as you can. Giving up will get you nowhere, you need to stick to your ideals, and work hard for what you want>

Keep the faith? I’ve had none since my dad died. Thanks for the words of encouragement, though.

And good luck with the job situation: clearly, you have not given up!

I’m not speaking of faith in a religious sense. You’ve got to keep faith in yourself, in your ability to persevere, even in bad circumstances. You can do it for sure!

Believe me, I am NOT talking faith in a religious sense. I appreciate your optimism :)

If the bank nor the seller want to give you the house at your offer, move on. the house you want will come up again. And probably at a better deal. the housing crash is not over yet, be calm. Unless you are looking for a country place and there are only 100 in the zone you are looking in you have plenty of time and ability.

In the mean time, cut any expenses you don’t need. save up as much as possible and pay as much down as humanly possible. This recession/depression is not over yet. You have at least a year before the market changes any despite what the TV tells you.

I like that you are sounding self-destructive… You are saying those things, but you actually are really positive and must be a really hard-working person at heart. I know someone like that. I think it is just that the situation is not going well for you right now. Wait for a little bit as you do what you can right now, and something good will come.

I’m not talking to you as an optimist. In fact, my wife calls me “the world’s greatest pessimist,” due to my life philosophy “s**t happens.” If you can make it through the hard times, you will be stronger for it. The real question is, are you going to give up, or are you going to stand strong, explore every possible option and persevere in the end?

I plan on persevering.

If you’re going through hell, just keep going, right?

And don’t ever pay a cent more then you can afford. In fact with today’s market ya best have a good buffer incase.

and advice from a recent home buyer. fixed mortgage, 30 year, and pay it off like it was a 15 year if you can help it. ARM loans are just that they WILL cost you your arm, and maybe a leg.

Had to take one of the cats to the vet this morning. No getting ahead! I guess I should be thankful I could even afford to do that….What a way to wake up….but at least I woke up.

If only my dad was here…he would say or do something to make things better. I am so alone.
