I am 17 and a senior this year in high school, with no idea what college I want to go to, why, and what I want to do with the rest of my life.

I’ve been having these troubles since eighth grade when my high school asked me what I was planning to do. I have gone back and forth between a multitude of possibilities- artist, animator, veterinarian, writer, teacher, nurse, surgeon, you name it. I can’t make up my mind, and I have no clue what I’m going to college for. I do know that if I take a year or a few off I’ll probably not even go, but I don’t want to waste my parents’ money by rushing into college for no reason. I’m not even sure what the big deal about picking colleges is about. I don’t have a setting preference, and so far I’ve just been picking random, less expensive colleges to look at, and going with them. I have no idea where to start or what to do.
I’m not a horrible student, and I’m taking honors, with a GPA of ~3.6, (that could be better if I weren’t so undecided on my future) with my apparent strengths in writing, art and science, and my large weaknesses in math and history. Decently good at computers.. etcetcetc.
Any advice?

Listen, i’m almost 18 and i didn’t figure out what i wanted to do until recently, and i’m still unsure! Honestly, i would recommend taking a year off, travelling a little and trying out a few odd jobs.. That way you get life experience and you get what you want to do.. i wish i had done that.. i changed colleges twice already.. (our school system is different then yours bdw, i started college when i was 15) So honestly, take your time.

Help me with: I have this idea, but i want to run it by you before i present it to the people who can make it happen.

I am 18 too and just recently sent in my preferences. I also have no clue really what im doing. When looking through the courses to study i focused on looking on the programs that had a variety of career options. I chose a bachelor of arts because it has many things in it that i enjoy, not necessarily what i want to do. i dont think lol. Its really nice because you choose 25 various minor subjects and the 1st year is only about narrowing your choices down. after the 2 years you pick 2 of those to major in. By then im sure you know what your interested in. You should find something broad like that, it will help alot
