join rachel’s challenge and become a friend of rachel!! the first student killed in the columbine shooting in 1999. that day rachel joy scott didn’t know that her life would end in such a horrible way. two boys at her school had decided to follow the wrong people and watch the wrong things and play the violent games, they decided that on april 20th 1999(hitlers birthday) they were going to do the shooting, they were prejudice and did not care who they shot, they also planned after to kill them selves in a fire. as rachel was shot her brother was in the library and heard the shots not knowing it was his sister being killed, a teacher came in yelling telling the students to get under the tables there were two students outside with guns as the teacher announced this another student had been shot and walked in and fell dead at the doors, then the two boys with the guns came in and started shooting they went under random tables and pointed guns at faces and chose certain people to shoot not even knowing most, then the two boys came to the table where her brother and his two friends were hidding first they went to his friend that was black(one of the only few in the school) and started saying racist comments and slurs and then he was shot, then they shot his other friend, not wanting to get shot he layed still next to his dead friends terrified. the boys left and everyone was evacuated then the boys killed themselves in a fire in the library. a couple days later a man from another state had heard about rachel and called mr. scott and told him he had been having a dream lately about this girls eyes and they were crying and tears were falling to the ground and life was coming from it, then the man asked if it had any meaning to him and mr. scott said no so he kept his number. few days later the police said that mr. scott could come and get rachel’s belongings and there was a journal in there and the last entry was a pair of eyes with 13 tear drops and a rose earlier the day of the shooting a teacher saw rachel drawing this and didnt understand it but now its understood because the 13 tear drops represent the 13 people killed that day 12 students and 1 teacher. most people have heard this story but not all know the other side rachel’s story. rachel made it in her heart to be kind to everyone and not to prejudge anyone. many people came to her father and told him about the acts of kindness she gave to them there were two in specific one was a girl named amber, amber had just moved to the school and had no one to sit with at lunch rachel saw her sitting all by herself and went over and asked her to join the rest of them she kindly said no so rachel walked back to her friends and had them all go sit with her and that helped amber so much because what rachel didnt know was a year earlier her mom had passed away and all she needed was a friend. another student named adam told him about her act of kindness adam was diabled and had trouble with bullies in the school one day adam was walking down the hall and too big guys grabbed him and pinned him against a locker rachel saw this and went over and tore the two boys off of him and even though they were much bigger than her she put up her fists and said if you touch him again you will have to fight me and for some reason the boys backed off. that helped adam so much, but for rachel it didnt mean much because that was what she always did. when rachel was 13 she traced her hands on the back of her dresser and wrote in them: “these hands belong to rachel joy scott and they will one day touch millions of hearts”. Rachel months before had written an essay for her class and in it she stated:”i want to start a chain reaction” and “no one knows how far a little kindness can go”. rachel kept a journal and in one of them she wrote “one day i will be an actress”, in another she wrote in many ways that she knew she would die young and weeks before her death she wrote:”my death was not that of a suicide but of a homicide and no one is to blame”. Rachel had three goals the first was: to start a chain reaction, and she has. the second: to touch millions of hearts, and she has. the third: to become an actress and there was a movie made in 2006 about her story it wasnt a documentary but it was based off her story. if you want your dreams to come true you should always write them down once you think of them if you dont right them down you will forget or they will never set in place. make it a part of your day everyday to show kindness. if you want to know more about rachels challenge go to www.rachelschallenge.com thank you for reading and listening to her story it may not have all the information but i put as much as i could remember.
