TEKNAKAL DIFFIKULTEZZZZZ!
I had an acer aspire 5…100 maybe I think, which I was running linux on, although it originally came with vista.
I gave that laptop to my sister not that long ago, but she is inept in all things linux, so she wants the windows back ( yes, mad I know).
Im hoping a factory/system reset will restore it to the windows it came with, as it was all installed when I bought it.
I know how to do a factory reset on a windows machine-but not when its running linux :S
can anyone tell me if its the same, or how to do it?
my sister is in a different city, and like I said, not exactly a technical genius, so easy step 1,2,3 would be MOST appreciated,
kthnxbai :D

NICKLEBACKIN OGGAN FLOBBIN?
lol the option should be in the bios somewhere, like f2 for recovery options?
emmmmmmmmmm say what?
i really just need someone to say “this is how you do it, boom boom boom” because im not in the same city as her so cant play around with it.
NICKLEBACKIN PUKIN BUKIN
lol, ohh technical difficulties, just got that haha
idk I’d have to see the computer, but it should be like right in the startup menu, when it comes up and says Acer up at the top somewhere you should see like f2 for boot menu, f10 for startup and recovery
it is on windows.
lol, well no idea then.
you may be screwed, especially if you formatted the drive before running linux
yea… she can buy another copy for like 40 bucks, just thought id try save her a bit of mula
Do you have the means to reinstall windows without a reset?
ya she can buy another copy
Are those $40 worth your trouble…?
Besides, I think this question belongs in some computer forum. I mean, you’re just more likely to get an answer there, right?

O_o. yea…im gonna go ahead and ignore that one.
40 bucks because i already paid for the windows when i bought the computer, its just to renew the lisence.
ahh, didn’t know you could do that
wait.. if you already have the install disc and the product key is on the bottom of the computer, then why buy anything? lol
gah, no, i dont have a disk. windows came already installed, the disk and key are what she will be paying for.
ahh, well i can understand the disc but the keys already there, lol Microsoft is some greedy bastards
indeed. hence why i have a mac and changed that one to linux lol.
but what sister knows and sister wants, sister gets.
i wasnt the one who put linux on it unfortunately, it was my ex, so i dont know if all drives have been reformatted, but i figured it couldnt hurt to try restore it before she spends her cash on it.
lol, sister otta try xp, hell of alot more stable than Vister and i know my way around it’s product activation lol
Sorry, over my head. I’ll look for somebody for you:)

Or, for the low, low price of nothing, she can just get used to linux.

mmm that would be like asking a briefs man to suddenly change to boxers-she doesnt feel comfortable swingin free in the wind, my friend
court cant she do ubuntu?
it’s not all out linux
and it’s gotten rreeaallyy user friendly
…linux is Ubuntu. thats what shes using. believe me, ive tried to teach her lol.
she has technical phobias…or maybe shes just more stubborn than i am haha.
but she wants the windowssssss
ill happen on your face in a minute
My advice is to sell the Acer and get a Mac. :D But that’s always my advice.
but but but… sister doesn’t want a mac, you heard courty, she likes being confound to greedy microsoft

well, thats what i did.
but i gave this one to her, and rather than spend 2 grand on a new mac, she prefers the free 1 year old acer. with scody windows.
She should at least wait for 7.
She should get Windows 98. Now that was a sexy operating system.
ok people.
one last time. let me explain this.
my sister is the technical equivilent of a homemade box camera to the modern superduper 50000x digital zorbital epical zoom 43209 megatronic pixel pictoor maker.
she does not need anything fancy, she does not underSTAND anything fancy.
she simply wants her old faithful windows back, to check her email, write reports for work, and update her crackbook. that is all.
soooooo if ANYONE knows how i should go about reformatting it, then let me know, k thanks.
but techy advice on what she *should* have is falling on deaf ears.
except for windows 98, i love him D”:
essentially you have two options here. the acer aspire comes with a seperate drive, not a partition, a drive. should be labeled D you should be able to access it through linux and it should have your original settings on it (you can access it by pressing either f8 or shift and f2 when you boot the system this will take you into the boot menu and you can choose which drive to boot from. once there you should see the option to “restore factory settings” press Y for yes and let it do its thing.
if option one fails give acer tech support a call and complain because you didnt get a disk with your original system utilities on it. they will try to feed you some bull story about how they dont send it with any of their hardware. you should then point out that you payed money for those utilities and that system and as a customer you are entitled to them. after a few more feeble attempts to protest they will send it to you. :)(my sister has the same computer)
EPIC!
thankyou!
There should be a key you can press that will say ie. system restore. This will take it back to the original system. Hope this helps!!

I concur, however if option 1 fails let us know and we will fix you up with another option, I myself have an option but want to leave it as a last resort!
well i cant fiddle with it for another couple of months yet, till i go home, but i will let you know.
is it a power rating problem or can you speak binary ????? look into that please
O_o
Why don’t you have your factory restore discs? All you have to do is pop those in and it does everything for you.
because the computer did not come with disks, you dont need them for windows as the factory reset is in the startup.
