What you need to do is talk to someone who can listen and understand what you are saying. The past can be a horrible thing but thinking about the future is what makes humans live on.You obviously have alot of mental strength with whats going on so you can use that strength to help yourself rather than beating yourself down.
Don’t feel bad about seeing a pshyciatrist because they are here to help and the more cooperative you are to them the more they can help you, I understand they might not know what you have been through but you can make them understand what you have been through.

Well what do you think would be an alternative to not being here anymore.
Whats keeps you from not being here, the question is do you have someone you can talk to about these matters or is it someone you need to trust to talk to.

Well, you’ve got a couple of things to deal with.

1. Grief. You lost your step mother. After my wife’s death, I found the following helped me a lot

- writing letters to my dead wife every night… it kept the communication going in a way… I’d share my day, all my anger, regrets, depression etc. and let it all pour out night after night.

- bereavement support group… sat in a circle with others who had lost their wives and we shared our stories and saw people worse off than us and better than us and got a sense of our own journey, got help and hints

- exercise… joining a running group, a social biking group… helped immensely… I was SERIOUSLY overweight and yet the friendships I developed helped motivate me to exercise

2. Anxiety

- anxiety is what makes you want to give up… the more you retreat, the more you become passive, the more depressed you become. The solution is to start setting tiny goals and achieving them… when you feel anxious, persist until you get that goal done. Gradually you will reset your anxiety levels and become more and more confident in the world. I’ve done this. It works. I used to be nearly trapped in my own house by fear.

Whether or not you talk to friends or a partner is your choice. You can do it if you choose to.

Follow my suggestions. They are practical advice from someone who has been there. The challenge of doing them will build your confidence.

Here’s your first goal:

- go get a notebook and a pen
- write your first letter to your stepmother

Here’s your next goal:

- find a bereavement support group
- call them and commit to them to showing up
- mark it on your calendar and tell your partner and friends you are going to be sure you actually do it

Here’s your next goal:

- get the book “On grief and grieving” by Elizabeth Kuebler-Ross from the library or off Amazon or ask your partner or friends to buy it for you
- read it… it speaks right to you about grief…

Motivation comes from COMMITMENT. You must commit to something publicly. And the commitment must be to a goal.

I find it much easier to commit to learning to run 5k with a running group than going to a gym.
