i need to call in sick to work, not sure what to say…

.

I spent the night in the emergency room
(mostly waiting around) because ive had a really serious migraine that wouldnt go away. now they have me on some medication that makes me really dopey, and want me to come in for bloodwork in a few weeks. obviously, its not a life or death situation, so im not exactly sure how to explain that i need the rest of the week off. basically i want a little time to get used to the medication, and make sure that ill be okay to work (i had to come home after 20 minutes yesterday, which is what prompted the hospital trip). any thoughts on what to say to my manager without coming off as a total slacker? :(

Tell them you need to take the rest of the week off. It is your reputation that is going to save the day (or possibly ruin it.) If you have a reputation as a hard worker, they’ll take care of you. If you have a bad reputation, it won’t matter what you say.

Say you have an alarming temperature and flu-like symptoms uh oh…

Lol, no say that the medication you’re taking for your horrible migraine is giving you bad side effects, so you need a week for your body to adjust to it. Get well soon!

Say “Hello boss. I am calling to inform you of my current health condition as a result of the new unfamiliar medication that I’m taking for my migraine headache. The medication has a few disagreeable effects and I’m afraid that it will only impair my work. I believe Monday would be a better day for me to return since it will give the medicine enough time to eliminate my headache, but more importantly by then, my health should be regained.”

Try simply telling the truth. Not feeling like a slacker probably has more to do with you than it does with your employer.
